Cristinaannibale Posted December 12, 2013 at 09:07 AM Report Posted December 12, 2013 at 09:07 AM Nimen hao! I'd like to know more info about studying in this city if someone had experiences in qinhuangdao! Could you tell me in which university i can study and how is living in this city? roddy Posted December 12, 2013 at 09:42 AM Report Posted December 12, 2013 at 09:42 AM There are two universities in Qinhuangdao. One is Yanshan, which I've already given you a link to. The other is Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, (new topic) which looks like it has close links with Italy, so you might want to avoid it - there could be... Italians! It's really helpful if you can ask more specific questions. Quote
JustinJJ Posted December 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM Report Posted December 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM I went to the beach area 北戴河 (beidaihe) once and interestingly were loads of Russian tourists on the beach (perhaps more than Chinese) and lots of Russian signs around the place. I imagine this has no impact on your studies as though (as they all seemed like tourists passing by, not 'locals'). I have friends from that area who speak very clear Chinese so if you get into the 'chinese crowd' you should have no issues with getting putonghua immersion. Aside from studies I'm not sure whether there's much to do in qinghuangdao for entertainment though. Quote
roddy Posted December 12, 2013 at 10:08 AM Report Posted December 12, 2013 at 10:08 AM The whole Bohai coast is popular with tourists from Russia's Far East - it's close, relatively cheap, they can stock up on consumer goods, and warmer than Siberia. Quote
Lu Posted December 12, 2013 at 11:31 AM Report Posted December 12, 2013 at 11:31 AM Only spent two days in Qinhuangdao. The beach was nice, but the rest of the city didn't seem much to write home about. Which of course can be helpful in making you study more. The air should be cleaner than in Beijing, and if you want more culture (or nightlife) you can always go to Beijing for the weekend. My only other concern would be the quality of education. If they have little experience or emphasis on teaching Chinese to foreigners, it's possible that their program is not as good as elsewhere. Quote
ZhangKaiRong Posted December 12, 2013 at 01:35 PM Report Posted December 12, 2013 at 01:35 PM @Lu "My only other concern would be the quality of education. They have experience with foreigners. Too much stereotypes Quote
sparrow Posted December 13, 2013 at 07:53 PM Report Posted December 13, 2013 at 07:53 PM When I saw this, I first read it as Diaoyu Dao 钓鱼岛 and got excited and a little afraid. Quote
imron Posted December 13, 2013 at 09:58 PM Report Posted December 13, 2013 at 09:58 PM I lived in the greater Qinhuangdao area (Nandaihe to be precise) for 3 years. As 2nd-tier small cities go, it's quite nice. There are some foreigners, but not too many, except in the summer when there are loads of Russian tourists. Quote
Cristinaannibale Posted January 24, 2014 at 09:35 AM Author Report Posted January 24, 2014 at 09:35 AM I'm now in qinhuangdao!!! I've just arrived here and i don't know how is the city yet, the courses begin in march, but it's the situati in that i reale wanted!!! No foreigners, there are waiguoren but not too many, and there are not italians! I started to know many chinese people and i'm happy to talk every day only chinese and never italian or english! It's also my choice, because i go out of the campus and i want to know only chinese people and that's why i speak chinese all day long! Here it,s cold but i like very much the seaside, ( in summer they told me there are many russians) i like the city center and also the campus, it's very big and wiith a bus inside, you can go to the city center wiith a bus just near the entrance of the campus! It's about 20 minutes.. There are many places to visit but not in winter it's too cold! I found what i want:) Quote
ZhangKaiRong Posted January 25, 2014 at 12:10 AM Report Posted January 25, 2014 at 12:10 AM It will be pretty boring during the Spring Festival, because most of the 东北人 and 湖南人 live in the city go back to their hometown. Spring will come in early May, so the coming months will be a little bit depressing as well. But school will get you busy for some time. You can make a lot of Chinese friends on campus, it is quite easy as well. I advise you to use the WeChat application, you will find a lot of Chinese students to make friends with. PM me if you need any kind of specific help, I'm quite familiar with Qinhuangdao, haha. Quote
