WTC Posted March 28, 2005 at 06:16 PM Report Posted March 28, 2005 at 06:16 PM I have an opportunity to take one of two courses in China this Summer: 1. Soochow University, west of Shanghai. International Business transactions with Chinese characteristics. This is a 3 week program. 2. University of International Business or Economics in Beijing. The course is China and the WTO - 2 weeks in duration. Any thoughts on these courses? I think the one in Soochow might prove more practical to an employer. Anyone know anything about the reputation of these schools? Thanks Quote

WTC Posted April 1, 2005 at 01:06 AM Author Report Posted April 1, 2005 at 01:06 AM Soochow University is in Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. Right now I am convinced I will find (and employers would agree) the international business transactions with Chinese Characteristics more practical. Although the WTO course is in Beijing and associated with what is probably a better known university. These are all legal programs. I am a law student. Supposedly Soochow University has a brand new law school too. Quote

马杰 Posted April 6, 2005 at 08:21 PM Report Posted April 6, 2005 at 08:21 PM SuZhou U's program would be highly suspect as it is new and SuZhou is only starting to come on board as a developed area. That program is probably like the MBA program that Shanghai Jiao Tong U. hijacked. Purely a moneymaker. The one in Beijing should be much more reliable, but what can you learn in 2-3 weeks? If you can pass the HSK 6 you can enroll in chinese law school and get the real deal, though you can't take the bar or litigate in a court. Quote
