A childhood movie that I 'am trying to find

There is this Chinese film that I've watched when I was a kid (during the 1990's). I do not remember anything about the film besides a really, really small detail during the ending of the film; it has something to do with a guy and a girl and they were able to go inside some sort of scroll/painting? drawing? and in the end, the girl was not able to come back out of the portrait(something like that). I believe it is a love story too since the guy was not happy that the girl was not able to come out of the portrait and come to life. I know this is VERY VAGUE but I 'm trying to figure out what this film is and I would like to watch some of my childhood movies. It's the one movie for some reason that I 'am dying to figure out. I watched this movie when I was probably 4-7 years old during the 1990's. I know the details are very vague since I watched it when I was really young, but please, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

While this couldn't be the film you are talking about as it was released a few years ago, I recognized the story from the movie 画壁/Mural. According to Wiki it's an adaptation of the classic novel 聊斋. You should check that movie out, I quite enjoyed it.
