skylee Posted January 8, 2014 at 04:41 AM Report Posted January 8, 2014 at 04:41 AM As mentioned by roddy in another thread, Shaw passed away yesterday at the age of 106/107. Shaw made great contributions to the film / TV industries in HK and Asia. He was also a big donor to education institutions in HK and throughout Mainland China. According to some press reports, there are over 6000 buildings in Mainland China named after him. He also established the Shaw Prize. His name Run Run was based on his real name 仁楞. So, is there a (Run Run) Shaw building where you study / studied? Quote

Lu Posted January 8, 2014 at 06:14 PM Report Posted January 8, 2014 at 06:14 PM Aaand now I finally, only ten years after the fact, discover who BLCU's 逸夫楼 is in fact named after. With all those movies and all those buildings, he must be immortal twice over. Quote
prateeksha Posted January 10, 2014 at 08:47 AM Report Posted January 10, 2014 at 08:47 AM Lu, I figured the same after reading Skylee's post.. Quote
Lu Posted January 12, 2014 at 10:16 PM Report Posted January 12, 2014 at 10:16 PM It gets even better. Just now I needed to type the character 逸. Figuring that I would need to go through many pages of yi before getting there, I thought of this thread and tried finding it by typing yifu. Didn't work, so then I tried yifulou. It turned up immediately. This man has had so many school buildings built that even input systems know his name as soon as you put 樓 after it. Quote
