shangyedavid Posted January 8, 2014 at 06:20 AM Report Posted January 8, 2014 at 06:20 AM Hello guys, I'm new to this forum. My name is David and Harbin is my hometown. Right now I live in Edmonton, Canada and in the next two years or so I plan to bring my parents to Canada. The problem is my parents don't know how to speak English and they are about 50. I'm looking for someone: - live in Harbin - ability to communicate in Mandarin - ability to speak fluent English - available at least one and half hour a day - available at least three days in a week - patient and elaborated - mature and respectful My parents and I will offer: - transportation (pay for your taxi or offer you a ride) - at-home teaching experience (if you prefer teach English elsewhere, say your home. I'd like to talk about that) - sometimes lunch/dinner if you feel like to - practice your Chinese if you feel like to Wage: Minimum 20 RMB/hr (wage negotiable) Applicants would be considered first if: - native English speaker - with English teaching experience Feel free to contact me via e-mail shangyedavid@gmail.com Quote
brucehuang Posted January 9, 2014 at 03:25 AM Report Posted January 9, 2014 at 03:25 AM Good luck with 20RMB per hour, even college students in China makes more than than, so yeah...Try 200. Quote
shangyedavid Posted January 9, 2014 at 05:27 AM Author Report Posted January 9, 2014 at 05:27 AM I think there is a misunderstanding on the wage I posted. So please let me explain: As I have mentioned the minimum wage is 20 RMB/hr which means even if you are a beginner on English yourself and would like to teach I will still pay you 20RMB. However if English is your mother tongue and you have also mastered Mandarin then no doubt I will pay you what you deserve. Thank you Bruce for reminding me. Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted January 9, 2014 at 01:02 PM Report Posted January 9, 2014 at 01:02 PM I think the problem is that if people see you're offering a minimum of 20 kuai, they're going to assume you're not willing to go far above that, or that you think that's in the ballpark of the going rate for English teachers (it's not). You might want to elaborate a bit on what you're willing to pay (e.g. what would you be looking to pay someone with a year's teaching experience but only basic Chinese skills etc.) Quote
