Yuri Posted April 5, 2005 at 05:44 AM Report Posted April 5, 2005 at 05:44 AM As in during 500 AD to 1500 AD, was there a lot of racism against Caucasians and were inter-racial marriages with Caucasians permitted/accepted? I was discussing with a friend and much to my disgust, I realised I might have some of my facts wrong. Quote
carlo Posted April 5, 2005 at 10:57 AM Report Posted April 5, 2005 at 10:57 AM The word Caucasian didn't even exist before late 18th century. The Tang dynasty seems to have been pretty mixed (eg, An Lushan). With the Mongols (1279-1368), discrimination was mainly against the Chinese, and the famous Ming explorer Zheng He had Arab ancestors. The earliest European missionaries wrote of the Chinese having 'white skin', while the Chinese records of the time do not clearly distinguish Europeans from Central Asian tribes. Does this help at all? Quote
