Harvey Posted April 5, 2005 at 03:02 PM Report Posted April 5, 2005 at 03:02 PM Hello all. How does one use 悲哀的 (beiaide) in a sentence? Is it literally just "sad" like English? Can I say... 电影很悲哀的 "the movie was very sad"? Basic question but thanks for any help! Quote
Zingaro Posted April 11, 2005 at 10:37 PM Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 10:37 PM Here are the three primary definitions and uses as given in the Kingsoft dictionary. Maybe this will help. As with English, sad can be an adjective describing a state of mind or condition affected by sorrow (I'm feeling sad), it can be an adjective describing a cause of unhappiness or depression (a sad movie, sad news) or simply expressing sorrow as a condition. (1)Affected or characterized by sorrow or unhappiness. 悲哀的:受哀伤或不快乐影响的或有其特点的 (2) Expressive of sorrow or unhappiness. 显示悲哀的:显露哀伤或不快乐的 (3) Causing sorrow or gloom; depressing: 可悲的:导致悲伤或忧郁的;令人沮丧的: a sad movie; sad news. 悲剧电影;使人伤心的消息 Hope this helps.
