JustinJJ Posted January 25, 2014 at 10:41 AM Report Posted January 25, 2014 at 10:41 AM I've also had been doing lots of Anki, adding a regular 10 words a day etc... recently due to full time work I haven't had the time to religiously add 10 words a day, I have maybe been adding a few each day though I make sure I review what I already have in anki each day. However, recently I have been reading much more than I did before and I feel that I am learning many more words a day from reading than I did from SRS, so I think my vocab is increasing at a faster rate due to more reading and less additions to anki. It's probably the combination of learning new words in context and reinforcing old words from reading. Have also been listening to the radio all day at work when I'm not in meetings, so that may have added to vocab acquisition also, but I feel it's mainly coming from reading. 1 Quote
Lu Posted January 25, 2014 at 01:15 PM Report Posted January 25, 2014 at 01:15 PM I have almost the opposite experience. Most of the words I put in Anki are words I've come across while reading, but the more I read, the more I come across words that I know I have learned relatively recently and that help me understand what I read better. Reading helps me understand scope and usage of many hard to define words, but vocab learning helps me read better. (Although yesterday I came across the word 盲肠炎 and now I know what appendicitis is without learning it.) Quote
