New Members darryn Posted January 23, 2014 at 12:14 PM New Members Report Share Posted January 23, 2014 at 12:14 PM Hello all, I have a painting on the wall of my apartment that my grandfather passed on to me, which he bought in Beijing. I am just curious to know what the text says and would be eternally grateful if anyone could give me a translation? Here is a link to a photo of the painting: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aobehc1j01dggtx/photo.JPG Thank you so much in advance!
skylee Posted January 23, 2014 at 01:20 PM Report Share Posted January 23, 2014 at 01:20 PM The five big characters are 童子獻壽圖. It is the title of the painting and it means "picture depicting child(ren) presenting birthday gift(s)".The smaller characters say 辛未之秋畫於長安并記, meaning that it was painted in Xi'an in the autumn of the year "xin wei" (60-year cycle, most likely 1991. 1931 seems less likely.).
