Cristy26 Posted January 31, 2014 at 02:32 AM Report Posted January 31, 2014 at 02:32 AM Hi. A few years back a very nice Chinese girl helped me come up with my Chinese name for a class. Ai Zai An. At the time I only focused on how pretty it sounded and not the characters. I only remember that Ai was love 爱. Now I'm starting a new class and I want to use this name again. I realize now how important characters are. Any idea what Zai An might be? I have that Zai was second tone but I'm not 100% sure on that. Thank you soooooo much. . Quote
li3wei1 Posted January 31, 2014 at 07:23 AM Report Posted January 31, 2014 at 07:23 AM Are you male or female, and is the 爱 the surname, or the first part of the given name? I believe 爱 is a fairly rare surname. Quote
roddy Posted January 31, 2014 at 10:47 AM Report Posted January 31, 2014 at 10:47 AM Also, might she have been trying to incorporate your given name in the meaning or sound of the Chinese? Quote
Cristy26 Posted January 31, 2014 at 06:11 PM Author Report Posted January 31, 2014 at 06:11 PM I'm female. I don't believe that we got into surname and given name. But that might have been her intention for 爱. I do remember that Zai An had one meaning. When she described it - it for me perfectly. It had nothing to do with sounding out my English name. It just so happened my grandmothers name was An and with the first character being 爱 it was soooo perfect. Quote

Cristy26 Posted February 1, 2014 at 05:47 AM Author Report Posted February 1, 2014 at 05:47 AM Oh no. It does. funny. I guess my 老师 can chuckle when other students call me a disaster. Funny. I think I did figure out what the characters were. 爱 在安. Quote
