New Members TOJO Posted February 8, 2014 at 01:42 AM New Members Report Posted February 8, 2014 at 01:42 AM Most people say that Chinese new year lasts 15 days, but officially, Chinese only get 7 days of vacation. Did Chinese have 15 days off, traditionally? Quote
skylee Posted February 8, 2014 at 06:03 AM Report Posted February 8, 2014 at 06:03 AM I think people say that because there is another festival called 元宵 (Yuan Xiao) on the 15th day of the first lunar month which is the first full moon of the luner year. After that day the new year festival is considered to be over. Despite the length of the official public holidays, even now some businesses are closed for the first 10 to 15 days of the first lunar month. In the past when the pace was slower people tended to take more days off. Quote
mandarina Posted February 8, 2014 at 10:10 AM Report Posted February 8, 2014 at 10:10 AM Students and school children also get the time off. When I was studying in a Chinese uni we always got like six weeks of holidays. Quote
