Small, warm city in China (maybe near the coast)?

"Besides, (and I live in a heavy dialect area) it's nice to have a handy excuse when I don't understand something in daily conversation. I can tell myself the other person was speaking a mishmash of Putonghua and Kunming Dialect or that their accent was absolutely terrible. No way could the communication breakdown have been my own fault."

Hahaha, good point.

I did take a look at the sticky thread and that's how I came up with this post.

I will take a look at Wenzhou.

David, how's the decision making process going? Have you narrowed down your options at all?

Guess I forgot all about this little thread...

I applied to the Taiwan Government's HES (Huayu Enrichment Scholarship) and won 3 months which is super cool!

I'm currently waiting on a response from the CSC scholarship before deciding.

The cities I ended up preferring:

1) Anywhere in Taiwan

2) Xiamen

3) Hainan

This is tricky. While northern cities speak more 普通话, southern cities are warm. Haha.

But there are still some options I think, such as Shenzhen and Xiamen. They are in the southern part of china, big cities. Most of their citizens came from all over the China, so no certain dialect is dominant and 普通话 is commonly speaking there.
