New Members Lulu0915 Posted February 11, 2014 at 03:00 PM New Members Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 03:00 PM Hello. This is a plastic lid I have. Can someone please help with translating these two pictures of the writing on the lid. Does the big "S" in the first one mean anything? What is written underneath? I think the second one is about temperatures. Thank you! Quote
Shelley Posted February 11, 2014 at 05:05 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 05:05 PM I think (I might be wrong) but it looks like Japanese (especially the second picture) to me. Quote

Shelley Posted February 11, 2014 at 05:39 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 05:39 PM Was she Chinese? As I said I could be wrong. But the second one really looks like Japanese. Quote
lingo-ling Posted February 11, 2014 at 06:17 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 06:17 PM The "S" seems to be a logo. Underneath it says "production permit" or "manufacturing permit" followed by a number. The second photo shows the word "range" in Japanese. 1 Quote
New Members Lulu0915 Posted February 11, 2014 at 06:29 PM Author New Members Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 06:29 PM Thank you! I was hoping it would say somethibg about the kind of plastic or of its BPA free or not. Guess it doesn't say that. Quote
Lu Posted February 11, 2014 at 07:22 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 07:22 PM 生产许可, meaning, as lingo-ling said, "production permit" or "manufacturing permit". Quote
Nathan Mao Posted February 11, 2014 at 08:18 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 08:18 PM In the first image, to the left of the numbers, there is a 粤, which is the abbreviation/nickname for Guangzhou Province. The second photo is almost definitely Japanese. This could have been manufactured for export to Japan, perhaps. Quote
TheBigZaboon Posted February 11, 2014 at 11:40 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 11:40 PM The first is Chinese, and as has been pointed out, give the manufacturing permit number for the product. The second is Japanese, and says レンジでO.K., meaning it is safe to use in a microwave oven, and gives a temperature range (-30~+120) within which the lid, and presumably the container, if there is one, can be used. It seems that the product was made in China with export to Japan in mind. Quote
TheBigZaboon Posted February 11, 2014 at 11:49 PM Report Posted February 11, 2014 at 11:49 PM I just want to add some things I left out of my previous post. 1. The S, enclosed in a big Q-like motif is probably a brand logo or a Quality Control symbol. 2. At the beginning of the Manufacturing Permit number is the character pointed out previously as sometimes standing for Guanzhou/Guandong (Canton), possibly meaning the product was manufactured somewhere in that province, or that permission/approval to manufacture it was granted there. Sorry for posting twice when once should have been sufficient. Quote
skylee Posted February 12, 2014 at 03:38 AM Report Posted February 12, 2014 at 03:38 AM That is Japanese in the second photo. レンジ OK means that thing can be put in a microwave oven. Quote
