Azchael Posted April 11, 2005 at 03:20 PM Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 03:20 PM Hi there, Yan Jun (http://www.painkillermag.com/china/Yan_Jun.html) has allowed his article "Ten Years, A Snapshot For Chinese New Music" to be uploaded onto http://china.painkillermag.com at http://www.painkillermag.com/china/article_yanjun1.html. The article gives a short summary about the development of so called "new modern music" in Chinese history (Cui Jian, Dou Wei up to now) and its present weight in Chinese music scene. Worth to read the impressions and critics of Yan Jun, Chinese most acclaimed music critics writer and chief editor of "Writing" magazine. Rock on!!! Azchael Quote
Outofin Posted April 12, 2005 at 01:46 AM Report Posted April 12, 2005 at 01:46 AM The server seems down at the moment. I'll read it later. In my opinion, the new music failed us. Music should root in people. Or in the other words, they should look for commercial success before setting an altar for themselves. Even in the very begining, they wouldn't succeed if without Taiwan company's helps. If, some one or some band could make a million young men grab the guitar, then that will make a difference. Quote
niubi Posted April 14, 2005 at 09:58 PM Report Posted April 14, 2005 at 09:58 PM the term new music is misused in the article and likewise here. the phrase "new music" is generally recognized to refer to contemporary music of the 20th/21st century coming out of the so-called western "classical" music tradition. for further reading check out the followling link to a brief bibliography of chinese new music from the "Modern Chinese Literature and Culture" website at ohio state university: http://mclc.osu.edu/default.htm Quote
