woliveri Posted April 11, 2005 at 04:51 PM Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 04:51 PM Where the heck is BLCU in relation to BeiDa DaXue or QingHua DaXue? I have a map of Beijing but can't seem to find it. I have heard it's in the suburbs. Does that mean it's away from any "happenings", "night life", ?? Thanks, Quote
Catdiseased Posted April 11, 2005 at 06:26 PM Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 06:26 PM It is near the subway station "Wu Dao Kou". And I wouldnt say that it's in the suburbs, really... Quote
roddy Posted April 11, 2005 at 11:33 PM Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 11:33 PM Yeah, if you can't see it on the map then the Wudaokou station is probably the nearest easily findable landmark - although if you have a map more than a couple of years old even that won't be there. Look east of Qinghua. You can walk from BLCU to Beida in what, 20 minutes? Maybe nearer 30? Roddy Quote
woliveri Posted April 11, 2005 at 11:38 PM Author Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 11:38 PM thanks Roddy, That's helpful. I was given the impression that BLCU was out in the boonies, away from everything. 20 or 30 minute walk is a piece of cake. Quote
roddy Posted April 11, 2005 at 11:45 PM Report Posted April 11, 2005 at 11:45 PM Well, that's a 20/30 minute walk to Beida. However, BLCU is close to the light rail that takes you to Xizhimen, where you get onto the main subway line, plus there's an ever-expanding number of cafes / bars around Wudaokou, if that's your thing. BeijingSlacker Posted April 13, 2005 at 11:01 AM Report Posted April 13, 2005 at 11:01 AM Look east of Qinghua. You can walk from BLCU to Beida in what, 20 minutes? Maybe nearer 30? I am not too sure about this. might be farther than 30 minutes' walk Quote
roddy Posted April 13, 2005 at 03:13 PM Report Posted April 13, 2005 at 03:13 PM I reckon you walk slow Anyone timed it? Either way, it's a 10Y taxi ride. Quote
ChouDoufu Posted April 13, 2005 at 11:31 PM Report Posted April 13, 2005 at 11:31 PM definitely closer to thirty minute walk. It's actually on the same street as Beida's East gate (which is the end of the street) and Tsinghua's East gate (which faces south). In terms of location and access to night life, it definitely has the closest access to the Wudaokou area (assuming a tsinghua student is coming from the dorms). Quote
keetaec Posted April 15, 2005 at 12:09 AM Report Posted April 15, 2005 at 12:09 AM Anyone has a map of Beijing in English and/or chinese? please? Quote
gougou Posted April 16, 2005 at 09:28 AM Report Posted April 16, 2005 at 09:28 AM This one looks like the one I hung over my desk in happy anticipation of times to come (and to keep motivated while studying characters...): http://www.chinamap.com/map/bjmap/bjmap.htm Quote
roddy Posted April 16, 2005 at 09:43 AM Report Posted April 16, 2005 at 09:43 AM More because I wanted to test out our new attachments feature than anything else, here's a section of that map with the distance between the two universities clearly marked. Roddy Quote
amandagmu Posted April 30, 2005 at 08:29 PM Report Posted April 30, 2005 at 08:29 PM If you're still looking for a map with the university on it, I just bought the periplus beijing map off Amazon for my trip to BLCU this summer: Periplus Travel Maps Beijing: China Regional Maps (Periplus Travel Maps) It has all the universities and big sites on it.... but you're probably still going to have get a real Chinese one when you get there (otherwise a taxi ride somewhere could get hairy!) Quote
amandagmu Posted May 1, 2005 at 04:35 PM Report Posted May 1, 2005 at 04:35 PM The periplus map has chinese characters for roads and such on it in addition to the university names, etc. So, it is English/Chinese (mostly). I'm a map person and looked for a while for a decent map and having been to Beijing before, i can honestly say this one is worth the $7-8 if you want to figure out where everything is before you go... (especially if you're one of those super organized and schedule-ahead people like me!!) Quote
