Translation For Military Ammuntion Vest, Please

Brute

Recommended Posts

I've had this Chinese miltary ammunition carrier for many years and long ago gave up trying to find out what this writing meant. I'm thrilled to find this site, and am looking forward to solving this decades-old mystery.

Photo is included. If it is not big enough, I can enlarge it. Thank you.

"五六式7.62毫米半自动步枪

子弹带

沈阳市皮革机栈综分厂一九七二年"

Can't make out the last character - anyone else?

"Type 56 7.62mm Semi-automatic Rifle

Bullet Belt

Shenyang City Leather [??] Machine Sub-Factory 1972"

Not totally sure what 栈综 is, or if I've even read those characters correctly.

Going to put this in spoilers in case anyone else wants to guess before seeing what I reckon...

It's 皮革机械 - leather and machines, which is an odd mix, but 综合厂 ('combined factory'?) acknowledges this. The last character is 制 - so made in 1972.

Hey guys, thanks for the quick response!

Have there been many requests to translate characters off of Chinese military items before?

Don't be surprised if a bunch of guys follow me over here from the SKS Boards before long. A lot of Americans and Canadians own those Chinese rifles and surplus equipment.

    Thanks again for the info!

Don't know about many - this is the third I can recall in 10 years. There might have been some I've missed or forgotten though.

If you want to send more people over, be our guest.

Other two topics I remember were

http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/15022-interpret-this-antique-chinese-please/

and

http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/402-help-please-to-translate-chinese-model-1907-rifle-characters/

The second one was after we'd be running for six months ( and I was still on dial-up!), and was one of the first times I realised people would be using the site for things I'd never imagined...
