Hello dear forum visitors, :)

Today I visited a temple in Amsterdam with a lady in my company I just met a week ago. We both bought a message there and only later opened it, when we found out it was in Chinese. I really like to find out what the message is saying and I'm thankful for the help that is offered.

Kind regards!

Joris

You should go back to the temple and ask the people there to explain it. You are expected to pay a fee to the person who explains it to you. This is how people deal with such things.

But I already paid for the paper, I think asking for expanation would have been free right?

This is what is on the paper - "紅塵白浪兩茫茫,忍辱柔和是妙方,到處隨緣延歲月,終身安分度時光。"

According to information on the internet, this is part of the "Song of Awakening the World " (醒世歌) written by a monk called 憨山大師 (Master Han Shan). I can't find a readily available translation on the internet.  But basically it is about the transient nature of the world, and about the benefits of being tolerant of humiliation, being gentle, not stubborn and content.  If you have picked this, then it is the advice for you.  These are the keywords (click to see the explanations in English) - 忍辱 / 柔和 / 隨緣 / 安分.

If everyone follows this rule, there will be no wars, no fights, and no progress or advancement, IMHO. :)
