Chinese characters on a altar for a buddha or quan yin.

But...what does it says?

right side = 南海紫行千秋在   
 (Quan-yin) Sailing above South Sea with purple atmosphere lasting forever

left side = 蓮臺開花九品香
 (sitting/standing on) Lotus Flowers blossom with fragrance around 9 Levels (of the livings)
                  
top = 佛光普照
  (Budda lights everywhere)

南海紫竹千秋在 

purple bamboo forest in the South Sea lasting forever. purple bamboo forest has a close connection with budda.

蓮臺開花九品香

蓮臺開花 Lotus start flowering. Lotus is a cushion for budda to sit with. 

九品 means the Lotus is a 九品 Lotus. 九品 Lotus flowers when it has experienced a lot of disasters (we called 劫 in chinese).

香 means the lotus exhales a sweet-smelling smell.

What is Quan Yin? Or did you mean Guanyin?

Yes, I mean Guanyin.

On internet you see a lot of different namens, Kwanyin, QuanYin, KwanJin, Quanshiyin, etc.

But it is ofcourse Guanyin.
