jbradfor Posted March 5, 2014 at 04:40 AM Report Posted March 5, 2014 at 04:40 AM And I don't mean 奶黄包. This year for 春节 I received some laisee / hongbao that were yellow in color, not red. I was told this is a new trend? Anyone else see this? It just feels wrong to me. But I did keep the money :-) Quote
skylee Posted March 5, 2014 at 04:53 AM Report Posted March 5, 2014 at 04:53 AM Is it yellow, or gold? Gold is all right. Quote
jbradfor Posted March 5, 2014 at 05:30 AM Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 at 05:30 AM It's 黄 I guess it is trying to be gold color. It's not a bright yellow, but if someone showed me some gold jewelry that looked like that, I wouldn't buy it. Anyway, so I take it this isn't new? Quote
jkduck Posted March 6, 2014 at 11:47 AM Report Posted March 6, 2014 at 11:47 AM Do you know a new Chinese word "土豪"(tu hao) which is very popular in China recently? I think the color you said is related to this word, and we call it "土豪金(tu hao jing)". It is a symbol of good wish that you will have lots of money next year! Quote

New Members snowiswhite Posted March 6, 2014 at 12:56 PM New Members Report Posted March 6, 2014 at 12:56 PM I think "土豪金" is the right interpretation for this, it's just for fun. "红包" is still the common practice. Quote
