Hi everyone,

I am myself a Chinese language learner. I needed a simple tool that would allow me to search the vocabulary I am learning, save it and review it.

After much research on the Android Market, I realized such an application did not exist. It was either a complicated dictionary with no way to save and review the vocabulary or a system displaying predefined vocabulary lists.

I decided to make the tool I needed: a simple but yet efficient dictionary for my everyday needs based on CEDICT (+110 000 words) coupled with a Chinese vocabulary memorizer system.

I worked hard to make the user interface simple and user-friendly: for instance, any character can be displayed in a very large font.

The application comes with the HSK 1 and the HSK 2 lists. More lists to come.

Panda Chinese Memo is what you need if you want  a simple application with only the features and no more, to search, organize and learn your vocabulary.

      It is completely free.

I had a look at your website and I liked the app you have created. Its good that it is simple and concentrating on one thing, sometimes it can be overwhelming when one app does many things without making it clear and easy to follow, Pleco works well but some others really get bogged down in loads of unnecessary stuff.

Unfortunately as my tablet does not have access to the the market (many Chinese tablets and phones do not have the license for the market) I will not be able to use it on my tablet which is what I would like to have done. The screen on my phone is not very big and I find it difficult to use it for Chinese learning.

I may put it on my phone and see how it goes but it would have been really lovely to have available as an .apk.

Keep up the good work :)

Hi Shelley,

Thanks a lot for your post. It really helps us.

I myself bought a tablet in China. I had to root it in order to be able to access the Android Market. Perhaps you might consider doing the same. Have a look at Cyanogen. Notice however, that rooting a device is not without risk. So, do it only if you feel confident.

        Bye.

Thank you so much for doing this. Chinese is sooooooooo difficult to learn and you just made it a lot easier for me since I do not have the time to enroll full time in classes. I will reccommend this to all my friends who are struggling to learn Mandarin. I am curious though, after all that work why aren't you selling this app - at least for $1?
