New Members hardeez1 Posted March 18, 2014 at 03:45 PM New Members Report Share Posted March 18, 2014 at 03:45 PM Hi, I have an old Chinese carved ivory art piece that I am trying to find out more about, like identify the artist and see if it might be worth anything. It belongs to a friend who has had it for 37 years (passed on from his father). I have links with pictures of the piece (hopefully they work), and the signature on the bottom. If anyone has any insight that would help us, we would really appreciate it! Thank you. -Scott https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9ubw7p8uY3abFJEaGgzS0ZEUmM/edit?usp=sharinghttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9ubw7p8uY3abkE0VWtqM1BVU1k/edit?usp=sharinghttps://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9ubw7p8uY3aeWx0TzFZbzZTdzg/edit?usp=sharing
jbradfor Posted March 18, 2014 at 06:53 PM Report Share Posted March 18, 2014 at 06:53 PM [standard disclosure: I'm not a professional art dealer, I just play one on the web :-) ] The real question is what is it made of, which no one can tell you via pictures. If it's real ivory (as opposed to bone or synthetic), it's likely worth "something". Recommend you contact a place that deals in ivory to find out how to get a full appraisal, and determine what it's made of.
New Members hardeez1 Posted March 18, 2014 at 09:27 PM Author New Members Report Share Posted March 18, 2014 at 09:27 PM Thank you for the response. I agree that we should make sure it is actually ivory before we do anything else.
