Rufus Posted March 19, 2014 at 03:00 AM Report Posted March 19, 2014 at 03:00 AM Hi guys, I thought you might enjoy this story of how we adapted a Sherlock Holmes story into a Chinese graded reader. It gives a bit of insight on how we localize and grade the texts into something that is readable for lower level learners. “Elementary My Dear Watson”: How We Adapted a Classic to Chinese Full Disclosure: Mandarin Companion is my company and we publish these graded readers that Chinese learners can read. 4 Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted March 19, 2014 at 01:12 PM Report Posted March 19, 2014 at 01:12 PM Interesting read, and I chuckled at your caption down the bottom there. Two small things though: 1) you mention that it was voted the second favourite Holmes story, but the website you cite only lists it as the second favourite Holmes short story. 2) sum of money ;) Quote

jbradfor Posted March 19, 2014 at 06:11 PM Report Posted March 19, 2014 at 06:11 PM Except Sir Arthur Conan Doyle never had Sherlock Holmes say that: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/signature/elementary.asp But I still liked the description of how it was made Quote
Rufus Posted March 20, 2014 at 12:57 AM Author Report Posted March 20, 2014 at 12:57 AM How true. Just had to take the literary license on that one because saying -"Elementary": How We Adapted a Classic- just didn't have the same ring to it Quote
