Popular Post tooironic Posted March 28, 2014 at 12:16 AM Popular Post Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 at 12:16 AM Hi everyone. I discovered this Chinese anime today and thought I'd recommend it. It's called 尸兄 (Zombie Brother), and all the episodes are available on YouTube, starting here. Each episode is only 5-10 mins, so they come in bite-sized pieces. The story is about a city that gets its water supply infected, thereby starting a zombie uprising. It's half-horror, half-comedy, with plenty of coarse language and sexual references thrown in. Good fun, with lots of common slang (the first episode features 文艺青年,屌丝 and 坑爹, to name a few), so it's good learning material as well. Enjoy.

tooironic Posted March 28, 2014 at 09:27 PM Author Report Share Posted March 28, 2014 at 09:27 PM It's pretty good, isn't it? Great art design and hilarious dialogue. Watch out for the cross-dressing 大叔 who comes up a bit later - absolute comedy gold, with double entendres aplenty.
tysond Posted March 30, 2014 at 01:25 PM Report Share Posted March 30, 2014 at 01:25 PM Animation style and level of profanity and violence reminds me of Archer. Love the cultural references (when I understand them) like the whole conversation with his mother. It's based on a comic actually, a lot of it is directly taken from the comic scene for scene. "我感觉我出现幻觉了。我竟然看见你家COCO头上顶了一堆的蛋蛋" "阿,蛋蛋。。。蛋蛋!?我看看!" I don't know why I'm watching this, but I want to see more.

I dunno, I find it kinda distasteful when a minor character is set up as a complete stereotype and then made the butt of every joke.
tooironic Posted April 1, 2014 at 09:30 PM Author Report Share Posted April 1, 2014 at 09:30 PM It's supposed to be distasteful, that's the genre. And every character is made fun of, including the main character.
Demonic_Duck Posted April 2, 2014 at 02:39 PM Report Share Posted April 2, 2014 at 02:39 PM Sure, but the main character isn't an offensive stereotype. I mean, if it was a black dude with exaggerated racial characteristics and a predilection for fried chicken, you wouldn't defend it on the grounds that "every character is made fun of". I have nothing against childish humour. Hell, I love watching 蜡笔小新... though that also occasionally contains offensive characterisations of transgender people. I just think it's something worth singling out as objectionable, rather than holding up as an example of great comedy.

Hwong_DsiKiem Posted April 24, 2014 at 05:33 AM Report Share Posted April 24, 2014 at 05:33 AM I've watched until ep 21 and I couldn't find episodes 22 and 23 so I assume that's all there is currently, at least on Youtube.

laurenth Posted March 23, 2015 at 06:12 PM Report Share Posted March 23, 2015 at 06:12 PM It seems there's a "fictionalised" version of 中国惊奇先生 starting here, with accurate dialogues matching those of the anime, as far as I can tell from the two first pages. Could be useful for those (like me) for whom that kind of help is necessary.
