Does 盘子 actually mean "plate"? Or does it mean serving bowl?

Just wondering, as I can't find any "plates" on Taobao.  As in, flat dinner plate.  They are all serving bowls for Chinese food.  Is there another, more precise word for "plate"?  My old plates are getting scratched and worn out and it's time for some new microwave-safe replacements.  All the ones they sell locally won't go in microwaves (I've tried...it's a bad idea to microwave plastic).

Some of these serving bowls are quite shallow, however they are definitely not flat.  All of them have edges, presumably to retain the water that most Chinese dishes contain.
