Tianlongprc Posted July 3, 2014 at 10:59 PM Report Posted July 3, 2014 at 10:59 PM 1) What is your native country? U.S. 2) Where did you apply? The Chinese Consulate in Chicago. 3) When did you apply? Late January 2014 4) When was the deadline? April 10th 2014 5) Have you applied for the scholarship before? No, this was my first time. 6) What program did you apply for? Masters with 1 year Chinese language preperation. 7) What schools did you put for your preferences? 1. Peking University 2. Tsinghua University 3. Renmen University 8 ) Did you apply for your school of choice beforehand? No (but I applied to the schools separately after I submitted my CSC application) 9) What agency number did you use? 8402 (Chinese Consulate in Chicago) 10) Where did you get your physical done? Urgent care center 11) Did you get your documents notarized? Yes at a local bank 12) Were you accepted for the scholarship, if you were not then why? Yes, I was notified by the Consulate that I was awarded a full scholarship. 13) Did you receive any university admission letters (prior to receiving a scholarship)? Yes, I recieved a pre-admission letter from Peking University on April 16th. 14) How were you notified? E-mail, 15) When were you accepted/rejected? I was accepted for the Scholarship on March 13th. Full results were confirmed July 3rd 2014 16) What school and program were you accepted to? I was accepted into Peking University for one year of Chinese language and then 2-3 years for a masters in international political economy. This is what I recieved in the email " Hi, there, Congratulations! Today we receive a message from CSC that your admission letters and other material for visa application will arrive at our office soon. Pls tell us your current contact info so that you will get them as soon as possible and get ready for the visa application." Well, today is one of the happiest days in my life. I just got an email from the Consulate in Chicago telling me that I was accepted into Peking University with the full ride scholarship. I then called them to confirm and it is true. They will be sending me the stuff I need for my visa application soon. I did all that worrying for nothing. If you have seen my previous posts, I called Peking after they released the intial list of people that got accepted and I was not on the list. When I called them they informed me that if I was not on the list then I would not be accepted. That is why I was worried, but now I can confirm that applying throuh the university and the embassy are two different processes. I would like to thank all of you that helped calm me down and gave me advice as well as though who posted on this site. This site has been a tremendous help, so thank you all. To those that have not recieved thier results yet, all I can say is to be paitent and hope for the best. If you did everything right then you should have more confidence than I did. If anybody wants to meet up in Beijing feel free to message me. Previously I have lived in China for 7 1/2 years so I can at least speak Chinese and might be able to help you with settling in. P.S. my agency number was 8402 1
Rae Posted July 4, 2014 at 03:19 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 03:19 AM I don't know whether it will be the same this year but for those who applied for the CGS EU Window, the results were announced in 2 batches: one mid-July and one at the end of July.
Dipen Posted July 4, 2014 at 04:02 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 04:02 AM Hello Everybody,I have applied at Zhejiang university through Chinese Embassy...i want to know that anybody who applied through Chinese embassy at any University got their results with their name list in the winner list of university website or not? i heard embassy process is different and i'm confuse whether Embassy applicants result will be publish in the website of university or they will be only informed by embassy at the end of july.If anybody who won their scholarship through embassy please post the exact thing about their results on this topic.....
shuoshuo Posted July 4, 2014 at 04:30 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 04:30 AM goddess_hina - No, I just wanted to know who applied to which dispatching authority because it is normally your dispatching authority who should know your status, when the results are out. For most people who have applied directly to the university - these results - most of them are already published or universities already know the status of the results. However, as it is early July at the moment...the ones who have applied through the embassies/consulates should know their results soon (and most will ben informed by their embassies, not their university). As I've mentioned on an earlier post, that I have only been 'unofficially' informed by my university- because CSC had contacted my university for a certain matter...and the person who had given me the pre-admissions notice divulged my status to me. So officially, people in my country have not been informed yet - we are usually informed near the end of July. I don't even know if my embassy is aware of the results because they have not contacted me directly (which is something they did last year, some time around early July). So for those of you who applied through the embassy or MOEs, you will receive the results very soon. In fact, even later, if it has to go to the embassy and then the govt. body like an MOE. If you applied with the pre-admissions and an award letter, there is very little for you to worry about.
Charliefarrell Posted July 4, 2014 at 04:44 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 04:44 AM @Scooby Thanks for the info, so on that I called Gary Chen the eu link at the consulte in Belgium he informed me that he hopes to receive the csc results by the end of the week and to just keep checking the web site. Oh and to explain, I had to send my application to Belgium to apply because that's were the consulte is. The embassy in my country only get 1 scholorship per year but the consulte have 160 for the eu, so I thought I might have a better chance doing it that way.
Charliefarrell Posted July 4, 2014 at 05:06 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 05:06 AM @Pauan sorry you didn't get it last year, my language skills are terrible so it had to be the english programme. Yes I applied on a wim for the Film Production course last year I didn't think I had a hope of getting in but the head of cinematography really liked my portfolio so they offered me a spot, only problem was the fees were €10000 and when I went to look for a student loan in Ireland I couldn't get one for near that amount, as fees here are pretty low so I asked them to defer it to this year. That was a lot of emailing and calling and know one would really let me no if they could do that till about April of this year. I have know official offer from csc yet but according to the collage they are paying 10000rmb fees and accommodation, medical etc. but I still have to pay €8250 so I don't know how I am going to get that. The other course I applied for was film and television production masters at Beijing communications University they emailed me and told me that the csc were know longer running the course this years and would I be interested in a communications and journalism masters. I had not even heard of The Central Drama Academy but I will definitely check it out, thanks for the tip. I really hope you get the masters this year, you should hear very soon I got my official acceptance yesterday via email.
Tianlongprc Posted July 4, 2014 at 05:25 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 05:25 AM I forgot to add that when the embassy gave me an email, the email also included two other names. So in total 3 people were notified that they won the scholarship. @Dipen, Peking University did not put anything on thier website that shows I was accepted.
Melliesons Posted July 4, 2014 at 05:44 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 05:44 AM Let it be known that it is the agency you used that will notify you of your results. If u applied thru' embassy dont expect university to notify u or publish ua name in their website. Again dont fear to inquire from the agency u used abt us results....i was losing my patience n i wrote an email to the uni i applied asking if the list is out only to get a congratulatory email back....that means they sometimes have results already bt they dont communicate
Dipen Posted July 4, 2014 at 06:49 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 06:49 AM @Tianlongprc, @Melliesons Thanks for the information regarding embassy process.i have called to embassy but they said they don't have any information till now. They said you will be informed at the end of july.i 'd like to know the result as soon as possible,so that i make a plan for myself earlier.waiting till the end of july is very late for me.i don't know why university won't publish the name of embassy applicants in their website. If they did so it would be some weeks earlier to make a mind anyway. @milestone how do you know that university won't publish the name of embassy applicants.do you have the same case as Tianlongprc or knew from other sources? One of my friend from Zhejiang university said that all students result will be publish in their website.May be be he is wrong so i am just trying to know the exact thing from this forum...Thank you
Dipen Posted July 4, 2014 at 07:12 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 07:12 AM @ Tianlongprc Congratulations.....you get scholarship in the top university of China.please update about monthly stipend of CSC Scholarship that you get for your master degree after you get all those admission letters from the Chinese Consulate there are some rumors about increase in monthly allowance from 2014.please post about this matter whoever get the letters earlier.
shuoshuo Posted July 4, 2014 at 08:43 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 08:43 AM When we applied, the allowance was the stated: 1700 rmb for masters, and 2000 for phd. I'm interested to know where the rumour started that this will change this year...
Guest scooby Posted July 4, 2014 at 09:00 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 09:00 AM A few years ago, before the new allowance had been introduced, it was 1100 rmb for master's students. Though I agree that an increase could be useful because, for example, 1700 rmb for a foreigner's life in Shanghai could be considered a joke, but I doubt if the increase is going to happen because otherwise it would have already been published on the CSC website. On the other hand, last time the increase was introduced in January, so..additional pocket money would be a nice Christmas gift..just saying, hehe
roddy Posted July 4, 2014 at 10:19 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 10:19 AM Many of you will find this topic LadyFeroz started on Scholarship life - lots of good advice there for you new students, and a great place for you to ask any questions you have.
Guest scooby Posted July 4, 2014 at 10:52 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 10:52 AM Just got the reply from the embassy, it seems that the results in my country are going to be announced at the end of July. It seems kinda late, but more time to enjoy the summer.
Lin You Le Posted July 4, 2014 at 11:35 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 11:35 AM @Tianlongprc I'm in the same situation as you was before. I also applied through university and through embassy. When I called Fudan Daxue they told me if I didn't apply first through Fudan Daxue scholarhip so probably I wont go to study at Fudan. At that time I was very sad, because I wrote a lot about Fudan in my study plan and I sent a recommendation letter wrote by a Fudan's professor, so if Fudan wouldn`t accept me any other university do so. I called my advisor in Fudan and she called 北京留学基金委 directly, they told her that I was awarded, but they could't tell her to which university. Anyway, I just chose Fudan Daxue in my application, I'm already living in Shanghai and studying 上海话, if it`s not Fudan I can't imagine which university want to accept me haha
Lin You Le Posted July 4, 2014 at 11:37 AM Report Posted July 4, 2014 at 11:37 AM I also called Chinese embassy in Brazil and they told me that didn't receive anything yet, need to wait some weeks. I don't know about Chinese embassy in your countries, but the staff who work there in Brazil are terrible, they always say "I don't know", "We have nothing to do" bla bla bla
