ladyferoz Posted July 6, 2014 at 11:44 PM Report Posted July 6, 2014 at 11:44 PM I messed up my "period of major study" dates, basically I applied via the embassy for an undergraduate in applied psychology with 2 years of Chinese language study, but I messed up the dates and basically summarized everything into a year. Impossible. The Chinese embassy had no problem with my application and have been asking for extra photos and small stuff and I have yet to find out if I received the scholarships so what do you guys think...? Do you think they will adjust the dates or change my major? Will I lose the scholarship? I called the embassy and they said wait till,, 31st July but I can't sleep. Someone?

jobm Posted July 7, 2014 at 01:48 AM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 01:48 AM Hmm, isn't it that there is a quota for the scholarship for every country? So it means, not all who applied through the embassy will get the scholarship, right? But, if my dispatching authority sent my application to China, does it mean I will get the scholarship? No, right? So, only time could really tell.
shuoshuo Posted July 7, 2014 at 03:11 AM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 03:11 AM ladyferoz - Doesn't matter if you filled in the form and wrote your dates wrong. jobm - Yes, each country has a quota (this number can change from year to year). Recently in my country, there has been more applicants than scholarship seats. So not everyone gets the scholarship anymore and they announce it at the same time. If your country has a quota of 10 for example, and there were 20 applicants, only your embassy knows if they sent all 20 applicants to CSC. I also do not know how my embassy handles it, if they send a surplus number of applications. But, I honestly believe they do - because it makes sense to send a surplus. If a country has a quota of 10, and the embassy only sends 10 applications to CSC, in the event that there is a problem with 1 application, the country will lose one scholarship seat if this is not replaced by another candidate's application. However (and I am just speculating here), I believe the surplus is placed in some sort of 'waiting list' category. I spoke to my MOE about this and they told me that they send all applications to the embassy (but I know they're lying). There are also people who try to apply directly to the embassy and attempt to bypass the government department that handles scholarships. So at the end of the day, the embassy will receive a surplus and they are the dispatching authority. Keyword: authority. I spoke to the embassy in my country about this, and they told me that they do receive a surplus but they choose the best applications only and the rest are never sent to CSC. So while everyone who applied waits for the results, some people's applications have never left the embassy's desk. I think it's so cruel, to do that to an applicant. We all have to plan ahead for this sort of thing. At any point in the process if our application gets rejected, we should be made aware of it immediately so that we can proceed to plan B and move on with our lives. 1

Sometime late in April I decided I'd like to apply for it. The website is very vague on how to apply for it. So I called up the CSC in Beijing to as about the dispatching agent number. I nice lady said I should call the embassy in Australia. I called the embassy in Canberra. I nice chap there said to call his colleague in Sydney and gave me a name and a number, this is because im from Sydney. I called the person in Sydney and said I wanted to apply. He said you need to get the form off the website, I said I need the agent number. He said he didn;t think the website was still working as it was too late. He gave me the number then told me to try the online form. If it worked he told me to call him back. It worked! I called him back then he gave me a number of another colleague. I finally got a hold of him and explained that I wanted to apply and that I know im a little late but I can express the documents to him the next day. He said no problem I will wait for your documents. The next step was getting the pre-admission letter. I called up Zhejiang uni found the right person, Tang Li, I told him that the embassy are waiting for my documents and just need a letter from the uni saying they will accept me if I get the scholarship. He told me to send him and email after the phone call. 10 minutes after I called him back and said did you get my email? he said yes I will email you a letter tomorrow. I said.... I am posting them tomorrow so please do it tomorrow, thanks. an hour after that phone call I got the pre admission letter in my inbox. I posted the documents to Australia and then had someone take them to the consulate and submit them. about 3+ weeks ago I called Tang li and asked how the scholarship was going he said your from Australia right? I said yes he said I have sent your documents back to Beijing. Last friday I called Tang Li and asked him about it again. He said you applied from an overseas consulate, they will know the result before I know the result. This morning I called the consulate and asked about the results, he said yes you have got it ! I asked him how many people applied from Sydney. He said nine people applied, two were bachelors, the rest were fundamental chinese and two didn't make it. He said the scholarship package will be posted soon. I will be picking it up when I head back to Australia in August. If anyone is going to Zhejiang uni please come and find me. I have a cafe/pizza shop inside. It is called CAFE TIM. sorry for writing lots of I said and he said and she said... by the way I spoke Chinese when dealing with all these people on the phone. Speaking English to them would not yield such effecient results. Cheerio Tim 2
shuoshuo Posted July 7, 2014 at 05:55 AM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 05:55 AM CafeTim - congrats! Clinical Medicine instructed in Chinese...cool! Is there an HSK requirement for the course? The foreigners I know who did clinical medicine all enrolled for the English taught programs. I commend you for choosing the Chinese taught program (which I think has better ratings and more credibility). I'll be doing TCM in another uni and I'm already shaking in my boots.
lexike24 Posted July 7, 2014 at 08:33 AM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 08:33 AM Hi everyone! I applied for the EU window scholarship part of the CSC through the EU window, Belgium. I called the university I applied to whether they receive the list of names who were granted the scholarship and they confirmed that they received "some kind of name list" but there is only one person's name on it (and that is not me), but they said it is better to contact Belgium or CSC. So I wrote to Belgium, where they said that the CSC haven't contacted them about the results and they told me to wait. Today I managed to call the CSC, which said that they are going to send the results to Belgium until this Friday. So my questions are: 1. If there is anyone here who applied to the EU window scholarship? 2. What is your experience? Do you think that the university could have got the results weeks earlier than the EU window delegation in Belgium itself? Thanks!
ladyferoz Posted July 7, 2014 at 09:40 AM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 09:40 AM You guys are all god sent
JackTheCrow Posted July 7, 2014 at 12:28 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 12:28 PM Excuse me, someone of you received Mr.Chen Gong's answers? He seems don't like me
Guest Karina Posted July 7, 2014 at 01:50 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 01:50 PM JackTheCrow, I don't think he will answer the e-mail whether you have received the scholarship:( As for me, he answers very random... As said before the results can be published this week, so we need to be patient! Did you try to communicate with ur universities?
lexike24 Posted July 7, 2014 at 02:09 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 02:09 PM I managed to call the CSC about the EU window today, the only answer they give that they will send the name lists to the Mr. Chen Gong until Friday, and they declined that they would have already sent the names to the universities, which is very interesting, because my university claims they already have the name list, and I am not on it.... so no idea. 1
BanZhiYun Posted July 7, 2014 at 03:28 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 03:28 PM Is it possible that the university accepts and sends our documents to CSC and then they reject to give us the scholarship? Seems possible to me, but I would just like to double check.
Dipen Posted July 7, 2014 at 05:13 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 05:13 PM Its a great news news for me today...Huazhong university of science and technology replied my email state that: You have been selected by our univ. we will not announceed the bilateral scholarship winners. chanda Posted July 7, 2014 at 07:22 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 07:22 PM @Ladyferoz Don't lose sleep over it. What happens is your application will be sent to the three universities you had selected. The university which will pick you will then send the details to CSC regarding the duration of your major as well as the duration for studying Chinese (if required). Let me give an example of what happened to a colleague when we arrived in China. He was awarded a CSC to pursue an MSc taught in English for duration of two years. Now, when he arrived at the University, he discovered that his course was NOT offered in English, only Chinese. So he was told to study Chinese for one year before he could enroll for his Masters degree. The duration of Chinese taught MSc was 3 years, so the guy spent one year learning Chinese and 3 years doing his Major; total 4 years. The University then wrote to CSC to amend the duration of his scholarship. So ladyferoz, don't worry, the university reserves the right to adjust the duration of your course accordingly.
shuoshuo Posted July 7, 2014 at 09:47 PM Report Posted July 7, 2014 at 09:47 PM BanZhiYun - It's unlikely, but it's possible if there is a problem with the application. Dipen - That's such great news! I'm so happy for you! It always make my day when someone here has got some good news, I can imagine how excited everyone is to start a new chapter of their lives in China.
