@ladyferoz Unfortunately I used a different method of applying (through a local ministry as opposed to the typical CSC/Embassy route) and it was definitely not stated in that application hence the confusion.

If you turn down the scholarship, it will not give someone else the scholarship spot. The quota is lost for the year.  Did you apply for the English program? I say go for it.  It's a good school at an excellent location.

Zeeshan - I thought you already know that you got the scholarship (and received all the materials)?  Try to contact your embassy and find out why you got the partial and not the full scholarship.

All of you experiencing some 'urgent' or serious situation: please call the university or embassy instead of sending emails.

@Shuoshuo I initially applied for the English instructed Business degree at Donghua and was accepted...but then they noticed I applied for the CSC scholarship (which in my country was administered in a different way) as well. So the university got in touch with me and told me it was one or the either. Pick the English version and pay myself or do it in Mandarin and have it covered by the scholarship. It pains me to turn down any opportunity like this, but I know my capacity and doing 5 years of a program in which I have zero experience in the language of instruction would drive me mad and tank my academic capabilities in that regard.

The program is only 4 years.  It is the additional language year (which is not part of the degree) that adds one more year to that equation unfortunately.  But you will be doing Business...surely in the day in age, knowing Chinese is a huge plus in the business field?

I felt the same way when I was first told about having to go to China to do my bachelors for not 3 but 5 years (incl. language).  I was given 2 weeks to consider.  My family told me to go for it.  I can tell you now that I'm so glad I made the decision to do that. If I had any regrets, I would say I should have chosen a business subject.

5 years will go by so fast.  I say seize this opportunity.  But ultimately, it is your decision and your decision will be the right one.

Well  I think if you know what you want and feel its worth it, then you go for it.  The timing 5 years or 4 years gives you an extra edge.

My masters is for 3 years and no pre-requisite 1 year chinese language in it becaus the programme is taught in English.  So basicall, I will be graduating 2017.

I am up for it and counting the days to August my month of arriving in CHina.

@ Seniors, Please

Tell us briefly the process from Beijing to other cities, settlement allowance payment etc.

@shuoshuo I'm fine with the period of time it would take, it's just the difficulty of trying to master the language in just ONE year that has me hesitant towards this program. Competing with people who are likely native and speak the language fluently, IMO diminishes the competitive edge I could have previously had. In your experience did you have to be a sort of genius to become fluent after the year of language lessons?

@mazi Sorry, I didn't follow, but is your Masters in English or Mandarin?

Posted

shuoshuo, your undergraduate course was in Chinese or English?

@all

My friend from Indonesia said embassy already sent to them the results, and will announce on the website in the next week.

@Shuoshuo and naturzen;

Yes, the CSC rules stipulate that undergraduate programmes have to be pursued in Chinese (for those on scholarship). Only Masters and PhDs have option of being pursued in English. That has always been the case. From my experience, even though language is such a big challenge, the degree offered in Chinese language is richer compared to those taught in English. The programme offered in English tend to be lighter in content.

Mazi - For some countries, the CSC pays for the air tickets.  If this is the case, normally they let everyone go to Beijing first and then a train is arranged to their cities.  All this will be covered by CSC and they will give the one-time subsidy allowance then and there.  Then by the time you get to your school, you will get the first month's allowance.  Please note that some schools prefer to hand this out only during registration date or even after a few weeks.  So make sure you have enough money in case there is any delay.  You will only need to prepare money for food though, in case there is a delay in receiving the allowance.  Everything else is covered by the scholarship so you will not be charged for that.  There is no one specific way they do things.  Some schools are much more organized than others.  Some will have sorted out your bank account for you and deposit your monthly allowance in your account, other universities will expect you to sign for the money every month.  Others will be on time with allowance, while some will always be late.

naturzen - I know that for DHU, your first year university will be done with international students. So it will be your 2nd year university (3rd year in China) when you merge with the Chinese students. That gives you 2 whole years to try and do as much as you can with the language.  Is it possible to be an expert in the language after a year? I highly doubt it.  Some people continue to struggle well into their final year. But the teachers are extremely understanding, and you will have foreign classmates who will also be in the same boat.  You will have Chinese friends who will want to help you as much as they can.  At this day in age, there is no better way to learn business...best of all, you'll be in a key location and you will be able to do business with China of all places.  Everyone I know who took that exact course either continued on to Masters/PhD and some stayed on to be employed in China. If you do your business degree in China in English, you will miss out on so many opportunities because of the language barrier.

Lin You Le - In Chinese.  But it wasn't related to Chinese at all, or language...so the language requirement wasn't so high. So in total, I did 2 years of intensive Chinese and half year part-time.

Chanda - I completely agree with you. In fact, I don't understand why anyone would want to pursue an English-taught degree in China. That's like my studying Mandarin language in America, or American studies in China. I just don't get it. What's more impressive than being able to communicate with Chinese in their language, and telling people back home that yes, I can read/write Chinese characters. It's just one big opportunity after another when you are a foreigner who can speak Chinese.  I also read that the university ratings for majors apply only for Chinese-taught subjects.  Universities abroad may not even recognize some English-taught programs as they do not carry as much credibility.  This is especially true for the English-taught MBBS programs that have become increasingly popular over the years.

bobur_92 - That looks like a pre-admissions email.  It is the document (although missing the official seal?) you needed when you submitted your application to CSC for the scholarship.

Selected by the University but CGS evaluation no name in the final list university is not responding because of summer vacation ........... People experience same scenario please comment on it ....... Is CGS Adjusting every other University****

Posted

@yali liz - Nope, nothing. I sent got the acceptance letter in May and then sent the preadmission letter a few weeks later and nothing since. I applied through DC. I've called a few times and left messages because no one picks up.

Posted

@yali liz and geometry. In the email that was sent to me confirming my acceptance and the later email with the tracking number for my visa stuff, there were two other names on the email. This might be because the consulate in Chicago deals with a smaller area and not as many were applying. I am sure the Washington D.C. office has a lot more and therefore could take more time to get everyone's stuff finished and sent off at the same time. Sit tight I am sure you will receive yours soon.

Posted

@shoushou and chanda. I also agree with you guys. I talked to some people in the U.S. State Department and they told me it would be STUPID to go to Peking University and study in English even though they offer that program. We are going to study in China not only to get a degree but also to learn the most valuable language of the 21st century after English. Chinese language is a challenge, however if you study hard and get good at it, you will have a lot more opportunities when compared to studying in English.

@geometry and tianlongprc - i applied through dc too! You're probably right, they have many more people to deal with. I sent an email a few days ago but no reply. I guess I just need to exercise some patience...

I applied for an undergraduate with 2 years Chinese language and I'm really excited to learn mandarin. Now if only the embassy can tell me if I got the scholarship or not , congrats to the new recipients!

HI, Does anyone has the list link for the scholarship winner from Wuhan university or Tianjin University?? Link will be greatly appreciated.

I got notified on 23rd june abt approval bt no communication since then. Do some universities send visa docs without notifying?

Posted

Melliesons - Yes, it is very common for universities to just send the documents without further notification.  Congrats!

Anymore embassy applicants who have received their result recently? No news from my embassy nor MOE yet, so for now I only have the unofficial notification...no documents. I expect to receive notification in 2 weeks.  In my country, we actually have to sign a bonding agreement...I'm already dreading that.
