Mazi - I'm actually not in China right now. I've gone back home after just completing the CI scholarship this year.  Might head back to China this year.  To answer your question: It was not necessary for me to take those vaccinations.  But the polio vaccine was something I already took years ago (mandatory vaccine in my country because we have no known cases of it). As far as I know, you are not required to take any vaccinations.

Ladyferoz - everyone should receive their results by next week, so it's not long now.

For those who already know that they're going to China - don't forget to read about the culture, people and also take with you the things that you will need and might not be available in China.

Guys, can I ask something? The end of my scholarship next year is July 2015, which is the end of the spring term. Can I apply for a summer program in China (or elsewhere) before going home?

Posted

Finally heard from the embassy in Pakistan and was told that i received full scholarship! however, I didn't get into any of my 3 choices despite getting pre-admission notices from 2nd(UIBE) and 3rd(SUFE). Also despite asking for program instruction in Chinese with 1 year language course, they enrolled me in the English language program. A little disappointed but at least I get to go to China! yay!

Hence just to let people know, pre-admission notice does not guarantee admission and the embassy cannot guarantee your placement in university and program of your choice.

11) Did you get your documents notarized? My aunt did it for me because she had worked for a bank at the time.

Finally, for those getting results:

12) Were you accepted for the scholarship, if you were not then why? Yes I was awarded a full scholarship.
13) Did you receive any university admission letters (prior to receiving a scholarship)? no
14) How were you notified? (e.g. by e-mail, mail, etc.) I first got an email by the US embassy informing me that I got the scholarship although they didn't explain further. They later asked for my address and sent over the package.
15) When were you accepted/rejected? April 24th by US Chinese Embassy, and Officially by CSC on July 12. On the 24th the embassy said you are encouraged to reach your dream school, based on the date on my award letter (May 23) I think you have a good month to try and work things out before CSC processes your award.
16) What school and program were you accepted to? BLCU 1 year language studies.

Looks like I might have to try and apply again next year to see if they would be willing to award me a masters in translation and interpretation. I think it probably had to do with the fact that I never took the HSK ^__^;;. Though honestly I'm quite relieved. I don't think my level is up-to par quite yet but now I'm dreading the application process there's just so much to include D:

I just wanted to add a new perspective as someone who didn't get the scholarship last year

~ I really think those applying should try and include everything. I'm 99% sure they don't even read it because my study plan outlined future ambitions with a translation degree (which obviously had they read, would have granted me it) lol. But yeah I still think students should try their best to include everything, even if you're just applying as a language scholar. In my package I included a study plan, two recommendation letters from my professors, I had everything that I could get done notarized, took a nice tiny pic and slapped it on, and filled in everything to the best of my ability. I think this is the reason why I was awarded the scholarship and not really anything else.

Just a note, I got my chinese name changed since I came to China, is it possible to change it on the Visa application and work it out with my school?

my greatest concern is the student residence permit.. if it will be valid until July 15 2015 but I would like to extend my stay in China for 2 weeks, what should I do? Could I write in my student residence permit application that I would stay in China until July 31? Because I would like just to have the longest stay in China beyond my scholarship period before I would have gone back here in my country~ I would just like to use this opportunity and exhaust everything I could to learn Chinese and experience China.

If your final semester ends some time around July, they will normally set your residence permit expiration date to the last day of July. But remember that your host university might not allow you to stay at the dorms for free after the end of the semester.
