I have a question and hopefully you might help me out. I got CSC scholarship in last year for master degree taught in Chinese. I finished my mandarin class preparation. To be honest I feel hard and worry cant follow the master course that will be taught in Chinese. At the same time, I got the admission from master of english program but without scholarship. Is it possible to change university but I can still get the CSC Scholarship ? anyone have the same cases before? RegardsJoshua

洋人丹 Posted September 2, 2014 at 04:59 AM Report Posted September 2, 2014 at 04:59 AM So I was thinking... I know that applications for 2015 don't start until December, but apparently some scholarships, like the Shanghai Government Scholarship, has already started the application process. Would we like to start a kind of "2015 CSC preperation" thread where we can help people with questions about getting materials together and contacting schools/professors etc.? I just got an e-mail back from the professor I want to study under and got a positive reply and her letter of rec., so I'm really excited. At the same time, it took a lot of time and thought and searching, taking time to write the right e-mail to the right professor, etc. I'm sure there are a lot of people like me who want to try to start getting materials together and want to contact potential advisers (and also have lots of problems in the process), so I wanted to know if people would be interested in a thread where we can help each other out.
justforget Posted September 2, 2014 at 05:17 AM Report Posted September 2, 2014 at 05:17 AM @Shuoshuo I know this year my applications were not successful. What do you suggest me to apply next year or is it better not to apply and not doing physical test, attesting transcript and etc.
ladyferoz Posted September 2, 2014 at 10:12 AM Report Posted September 2, 2014 at 10:12 AM WHAT A JOURNEY! I received my results on the 27th of August!! I did not post it here because I was dealing with the loss of my best friend the same day. I applied in April 2014, and received the results quite late, however my MoE asked our universities for permission to register late. I will be flying out on the 10th of September 2014, which gave me two weeks to deregister from my current university, vacate my dorm, and pack. I also had to do another medical exam here, in a span of two days before applying for the visa, which I will collect tomorrow. Thank you to everyone, for the advice and patience, special shoutout to @shuoshuo and all those who took time to answer all the questions. I did not get in the university I wanted (BNU) or ECNU, instead, I got into CCNU (China Central Normal University, also known as Huazhong Normal University), there is such little information on the forum regarding it but hopefully I will rectify that once I settle in. I actually gave up because it was so late, and got the call unexpectedly so it figures kids, sometimes it does take forever to those 2015 applicants. 1) What is your native country? South Africa 2) Where did you apply? The Department of Higher Education and Training 3) When did you apply? Late February 2014 4) When was the deadline? April 30th, 2014 5) Have you applied for the scholarship before? No, this was my first time. 6) What program did you apply for? Degree in Applied Psychology + Language Year 7) What schools did you put for your preferences? 1. Beijing Normal University y 2. East China Normal University 3. South China Normal University 8 ) Did you apply for your school of choice beforehand? No (I kinda wish I did, I do not know if it would have made a difference) 9) What agency number did you use? Agency number: 7101 (Chinese embassy, P.R) 10) Where did you get your physical done? Mediclinic hospital 11) Did you get your documents notarized? I had my transcript notarized at my university for free. Finally, for those getting results: 12) Were you accepted for the scholarship, if you were not then why? Yes 13) Did you receive any university admission letters (prior to receiving a scholarship)? No 14) How were you notified? I was called by a woman from the DHET 15) When were you accepted/rejected? Accepted late August (27 August 2014) 16) What school and program were you accepted to? CCNU for one year language program and Degree in Applied Psychology If you do not get in the school of your choice, do not be upset. Make the most of the one you are in! “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You'll Go!
shuoshuo Posted September 2, 2014 at 12:46 PM Report Posted September 2, 2014 at 12:46 PM Sincere condolences for your loss Ladyferoz! But congratulations on being awarded the scholarship. I was supposed to leave yesterday for China with the rest of the scholarship awardees from my country but I've decided to change my flight and leave next week (which means I'll be missing a few days of classes...oops!). I have a few things to do before I leave, but I am already quite excited to start a new chapter in my life. I wish you guys the best this year. My inbox is always available.
chanda Posted September 2, 2014 at 09:14 PM Report Posted September 2, 2014 at 09:14 PM @Ladyferoz, Congratulations!! Good to hear that you're going to Wuhan. I studied in Wuhan at Wuhan University of Technology just next to your new University. I enjoyed myself in that city and one thing I loved about Wuhan is that Universities are in same location of the city called Wuchang and as a result Wuhan has a huge population of foreign students. Wuhan is a friendly city, the only enemy is the heat wave in summer coupled with high humidity

Song Hu Posted September 3, 2014 at 01:25 PM Report Posted September 3, 2014 at 01:25 PM @ Shuoshuo No problem at all! My pleasure to help!
shuoshuo Posted September 3, 2014 at 06:03 PM Report Posted September 3, 2014 at 06:03 PM I'd like to elaborate on why I needed the BLCU contact. I will be flying to Beijing (that's how they set it up). So I needed BLCU's transfer service. This is the email address of the contact person: zhongzhuan@blcu.edu.cn The transfer service is for CSC students who will be studying outside of Beijing. The service includes airport pick-up, accommodation, one-time settlement allowance, train ticket from Beijing to our respective universities, and transfer from BLCU to the railway station. Not sure if everyone here is aware of this service, which is free of charge. I just thought I'd share it on here.
Melliesons Posted September 3, 2014 at 10:47 PM Report Posted September 3, 2014 at 10:47 PM Hey Guys, help me here. do scholarship students pay for medical check ups and resident permits?
New Members jjjliu7 Posted September 3, 2014 at 10:54 PM New Members Report Posted September 3, 2014 at 10:54 PM Has anyone had their stipend mixed up? I've just receieved the monthly allowance yesterday at the CNY 1,400 undergrad rate however my admission notice slates me down as full scholarship General Scholar which receive CNY 1,700. I wonder if it's a slip up or if I've been elected to do undergrad studies here...
shuoshuo Posted September 3, 2014 at 11:58 PM Report Posted September 3, 2014 at 11:58 PM Melliesons - Nope, scholarship students are required to borne these costs. I suppose that's why they give us the one-time settlement allowance. Ladyferoz and other bilateral scholarship students - did you guys sign a bonding agreement?
jobm Posted September 4, 2014 at 12:28 AM Report Posted September 4, 2014 at 12:28 AM So far, life in Dalian here is good. The people here have always helped me a lot! No, I did not sign any bonding agreement, @shuoshuo. 1
Melliesons Posted September 4, 2014 at 12:36 AM Report Posted September 4, 2014 at 12:36 AM Thanks@Shuoshuo, How much are we required to pay?
shuoshuo Posted September 4, 2014 at 05:10 AM Report Posted September 4, 2014 at 05:10 AM Thank you jobm! Melliesons - For a full physical examination, I think it's close to RMB500 at the clinic/hospital that specifically handles the foreigner check-ups for residence permit purposes. This is the cost in Shanghai, so the cost may vary in other cities. If you do it at your university, they may charge another fee, but RMB500 would be an estimate. At the university that I'll be going to, they charge RMB700 for the physical examination. The cost of the residence permit depends on the duration, and your location. So again, in Shanghai it will cost RMB400 for a residence permit up to 6 months of stay. RMB800 for up to 1 year of stay. I think it costs around RMB1500 for up to 5 years of stay. The cost may vary depending on the city/province you're at, but that is the estimated cost. If you are a long-term student, pay for the long term residence permit (as much as possible that will cover your stay). So like if you're going to be in China for 3 years, apply for a residence permit that will cover 3 years of your stay. Because if you only cover 1 year, you will have to redo the physical examination next year when you re-apply for the residence permit, which adds to your costs. jjjliu7 - You should discuss it with the staff at the International Students Office.
