lykaiowang Posted May 23, 2014 at 11:18 PM Report Share Posted May 23, 2014 at 11:18 PM Hi! All. I am quite new on this forum (matter of fact, I've only registered today). I am not sure if this is even the right section to post, but please allow me to finish my self. A little bit about my self: My name is Lykaio. I was born in Harbin, China and grew up in Toronto, Canada. I received a more westernized education but stuck to my eastern roots. Naturally I am fluent in both Standard Mandarin and Canadian English. If you are familiar with either, you will know it's a great combination. Because both Mandarin spoken in Harbin and English in Toronto have very neutral accents (little to no accents). In addition to that, I have no problem at all of reading, writing, even translating in both languages. I have recently decided to dedicate a good portion of my time in teaching other people who have an interest in learning Chinese. (I've only worked with native Mandarin speakers and taught them English, never the other way around.) Growing up as a native speaker, I took it for granted that Mandarin was my mother tongue and am not entirely familiar with the difficulties "foreigners" (if I may use that word) encounter; and fundamentally I believe that is one of the key reasons why the educational materials out there are not as effective as it can be. The makers of the "textbooks", "audio tapes", etc. never got to interact with people like you. To make a long story short, I am posting to see if there are people out there that would be interested in online sessions that I can have with you, to teach you something about the pronunciation / grammar / writing / culture / customs/ (maybe history?) of Mandarin/China for free. I am on Facebook, Skype, QQ and have Email. Please reply to this post if you are interested and I promise I will reply shortly. 万分感激! Monte Posted May 26, 2014 at 05:28 AM Report Share Posted May 26, 2014 at 05:28 AM Hi, this looks like such a great opportunity I created an account to respond to you. I would love to take you up on your offer. I was born in the US and have lived here since. I'm from Missouri and apart from English, I can read and write fluently in Latin (which turns out to be incredibly useless). Look forward to talking with you more!
