self-taught-mba Posted May 28, 2014 at 10:11 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2014 at 10:11 PM Hi all, Our Chinese school in Beijing is going to launch a new product/service and we are looking for beta testers. If we launch it we will make sure that you get free premium access for a year at least. We would like to get advice on what would best help you learn the material as well as design/technical features. People that could add something in the way of marketing/launching would also be appreciated. To avoid information overload we would like to start with just a handful of people and the ideal beta testers would be at intermediate level or higher and are somewhat technically adept although that's not necessarily a requirement. You should have a decent history on the forum either in terms of post quality or count or are otherwise verifiable. Please PM me if you are interested, and happy learning! Edit: when you PM me, can you give a brief introduction and say who you are, (I haven't kept up with the forum a couple years well and there's a lot of new people ! ), a short sentence about your technical level of expertise, and an email. In particular, if you know anything about WordPress and membership plug-ins that would be added benefit so we get the interface down. But we also want to get feedback on the learning aspects as well (of course!). Thanks for those who already sent me messages.
Koxinga Posted May 28, 2014 at 11:22 PM Report Share Posted May 28, 2014 at 11:22 PM I'm sure someone would be interested if you actually told us what kind of a product/service you're going to offer.
self-taught-mba Posted May 28, 2014 at 11:29 PM Author Report Share Posted May 28, 2014 at 11:29 PM Colloquial Chinese for intermediate learners. :-) The format is a little bit different from what is out there now. Were happy to let people in private beta know more details.
Ruben von Zwack Posted May 29, 2014 at 12:53 AM Report Share Posted May 29, 2014 at 12:53 AM How intermediate is intermediate? I am approaching HSK 4 but I feel that's not intermediate yet. But Colloquial Chinese sounds like something I'd like to practice more
ChTTay Posted May 29, 2014 at 01:00 AM Report Share Posted May 29, 2014 at 01:00 AM Surely "colloquial Chinese" is what you learn, not the product being tested?! "The format is a bit different..." The format of what? Without more information, you might find people sign up then drop put when they hear what it is. Thanks :-)
self-taught-mba Posted May 29, 2014 at 05:37 AM Author Report Share Posted May 29, 2014 at 05:37 AM The eternal question: how do you define intermediate? I think that would be sufficient, although in terms of spoken Chinese often HSK levels seem to have very little relevance. Basically should be able to handle a conversation on a variety of topics with a reasonable level of precision. You generally would be able to watch Chinese TV and follow along. Or a little bit lower than that, what many people refer to as "conversational". We're happy to discuss format/content with a very few number of beta testers at this point. self-taught-mba Posted June 2, 2014 at 07:05 AM Author Report Share Posted June 2, 2014 at 07:05 AM Update: Several people have signed up. Thank you much for those who have already signed up. You are great people. You have probably already received an email from me. Several of those signing up have been quite modest about their level of Chinese. We still want to find a couple more intermediate learners, perhaps a little bit further down on the continuum as well, so if you think that's it fits you, please send an email my way.
