sujeto Posted June 9, 2014 at 01:24 AM Report Posted June 9, 2014 at 01:24 AM I'm from Southamerica, im goin this year to China, specifically Harbin, i have to do scale in Peking and i plan to do my internship in Shanghai god willing. So i'm courious about the social enviroment, How Chineses stereotype Latinamericans people, do i have to expect any class of racism? How are Latinamerican being seen, Poors, lazies, fresh, jokers, i don't know you name it. Any recommendations for me when dealing with chineses? Ok im very respectfully with people, but i understand we are kind of overfamiliar with persons, and some other cultures migth don't like this. Or are we be misstaken just as "westerns", so i have to expect be treated like any other American or European. Quote
Mindmaxd Posted June 9, 2014 at 06:45 AM Report Posted June 9, 2014 at 06:45 AM Well people will treat you like other foreigners, not need to worry about too much about this thing,Most chinese are friendly, you are just a common 老外lao3 wai4(people call foreigners lao wai most time).that's it.Hope you will have a good time here then. 1 Quote
Lu Posted June 9, 2014 at 07:51 AM Report Posted June 9, 2014 at 07:51 AM I'm not sure, but I think that there are simply not enough South Americans in China for the Chinese to have developed stereotypes about them. In your picture you look white, so you'll likely be treated as other white foreigners. 1 Quote
Lin You Le Posted June 9, 2014 at 09:13 AM Report Posted June 9, 2014 at 09:13 AM I'm Brazilian, Chinese people usually like very much Brazilians because of relation between two countries. Dont need to worry, Chinese people are not strange, actually the worst stereotypes come from western countries, not from China.. 1 Quote

sujeto Posted June 9, 2014 at 12:43 PM Author Report Posted June 9, 2014 at 12:43 PM Nice, understood then. Roddy i'm not a soccer fan, I do volleyball and swimming mostly. I know as a southamerican i should play soccer but not my taste . Lin You Le i'm from Venezuela. Maybe we carry that stereotype of Socialists-Leftis . Something we have in common with China is the Government Philosophy So the topic could come out at somepoint or not. Question: as a foreigner, Must you avoid to have political discussions or are you expected to make any political demostration on behalf of the communist party? Quote
Lu Posted June 9, 2014 at 01:21 PM Report Posted June 9, 2014 at 01:21 PM There's no expectation that you sing the praise of the Party. If/when you find yourself in a political discussion, my advice would be to not say anything and instead listen to what the people having the discussion are saying. Advantages are that you won't say anything wrong, and you get an idea of what (some) Chinese people think or say about certain issues. No need to be a soccer fan, but it can help to know some of the names, and how your country is doing in the world cup. I'm from Holland, and many taxi drivers and shopkeepers and such react to that by going 'Ah! Hulite! Fan Basiteng! Fan Poxi! Dutch soccer is very good!' It's nice if you can make a conversation out of that. 1 Quote
