"Alpha male" in Chinese

What's the best way to translate "alpha male" into Chinese?

 

I'm a bit frustrated, because many of the articles I read online refused to translate the term at all.

 

So far I've come across three potential translations:

1. 大男子主义者 (isn't this "male chauvinist" though?)
2. 大哥大 (I'm only familiar with its meaning of "brick phone")
3. 猴王 (literally, "monkey king")

...but I don't think any of them are very appropriate.

Maybe 阿尔法男. I don't think they have a translation. I remember in my psychology class the teacher just used that term.

To my knowledge, 大哥大 in Taiwan means (or used to mean) 'gangster'. (Who back in the day where the only people who could afford a mobile phone, supposedly). Can't help you with 'alpha male' I'm afraid, perhaps you can look into what biologists call them?

I think in informal contexts you could use 老大? And surely there must be translations in zoology?

Can we get a more in-depth description of what exactly an "alpha male" is? Are we talking about the ridiculous concept that we see in circles like "Pick-up Artists" or are we talking about a more leader-of-the-pack type thing? I would describe the former as a "大男子" (and probably do air quotes with my fingers while I say it,) and the latter as an 阿尔法男.

A quick search shows that 雄性领袖 appears to be the term used in the PUA community, which seem to be the people who use this sort of term the most.

Not sure it carries the same level of douchebaggery associated with guys who identify themselves as such.

甲狼 seems to get referenced sometimes in reference to wolf packs, so if you have some poetic licence with the translation something like 甲郎 might work.
