Popular Post Olle Linge Posted June 11, 2014 at 02:39 PM Popular Post Report Posted June 11, 2014 at 02:39 PM Hi guys, I just launched a new resource sharing site I have been working on for some time. You might ask why I think we need another resource sharing site, and the answer is that I think there is a need for a resource site which is not focused on recent news and discussions, but is instead carefully structured and organised to make resources easy to find. Hacking Chinese Resources You use the site by selecting among a number of tags on several different levels: - Level (show resources matching a certain expected proficiency level in Chinese)- Topic (show resources for certain skills (聽說讀寫) or topics)- Type (show resource collections, tools/apps, information/advice, social learning) ...or you can just browse the most recent resources. If you want to know more, you can check the article I wrote about this earlier today: Launching Hacking Chinese Resources. There are currently almost 200 resources already shared on the site, and even if have received some help with that, I'm just one guy. I can spend lots of time thinking about the structure of the site and I can share my own favourite resources, but if I wish this site to become the place to go when you're looking for Chinese learning resources, I will need your help! There is a huge wealth of knowledge collected on Chinese Forums and even if only part of that could be used to improve the resources site I have created, it would be awesome. In fact, many of my favourite resources come from threads on these forums. If you think this sounds cool, please check the site out and spread the word! If you want to join in the fun, you need to be invited, but if you send me a message with your e-mail address, I'll send you an invite. I want to keep the users limited for some time because of the risk of abuse/spam, which i hope you understand. Once you've joined, you can start by up-voting Chinese Forums! Also, self promotion is fine, so feel free to share your own stuff as well. The site is still under development and if you have feedback of any kind, let me know! 7 Quote
roddy Posted June 11, 2014 at 06:05 PM Report Posted June 11, 2014 at 06:05 PM Looks like it's off to a great start - I can see the need for something like this, we have fantastic resources mentioned on here, but newcomers may well struggle to find them. Quote
Hofmann Posted June 18, 2014 at 02:04 AM Report Posted June 18, 2014 at 02:04 AM How about sorting them by upvotes? Quote
Olle Linge Posted June 18, 2014 at 02:20 AM Author Report Posted June 18, 2014 at 02:20 AM It's only the front page that's sorted by date (to give you an idea what's happened since yoour last visit). If you choose any tag(s), it will automatically start sorting resources by upvotes! However, it strikes me that it might not be obvious that you're meant to click the tags (few people will be interested in all resources, so we expect visitors to click something). Perhaps adding something like "click any tag(s) to show relevant resources" might help. 1 Quote

zhouhaochen Posted June 21, 2014 at 03:19 AM Report Posted June 21, 2014 at 03:19 AM Just a quick warning: I could not access the site from Beijing without a VPN right now (might be a temporary issue, but the server you are hosting on might also be banned in mainland China - if anyone else reports similar problems, I would look into it). Besides that great site - maybe provide a little bit more information below each link to a resource? It is a bit hard to tell what is useful from just the title and the tags that come with it. A two sentence introduction might help. Edit: I just saw that there is an info button you can hoover over to get more information. Might be worth to make it a bit more obvious/visible, it at least took me a while to find it. Just as an idea. Quote
Olle Linge Posted June 21, 2014 at 01:14 PM Author Report Posted June 21, 2014 at 01:14 PM I hope/think it's a temporary problem. All checks I've run so far indicates that there should be no problem with the GFW and I have some users in China. Regarding the introduction to each resource, I agree that it could be more promiment. Perhaps showing the first line and then a "more" link or something. Thanks for the feedback anyway! Quote
