Ria Posted June 14, 2014 at 09:07 AM Report Posted June 14, 2014 at 09:07 AM Hi there, I teach English to primary school students who've recently arrived from other countries. Next week we have a new boy arriving from China. We have a Minecraft club that runs during lunchtime and I'm wondering whether Minecraft is played in China. If it is, could somebody please tell me the Chinese for name for it? I'd be grateful for any replies ;-) Ria Quote
abhoriel Posted June 15, 2014 at 08:59 AM Report Posted June 15, 2014 at 08:59 AM I spoke to a few mainland Chinese people about minecraft but only one of them had heard of it, and that was through a British friend! So I guess its not amazingly popular in China, although I'm sure it will be played by some. To answer your second question, it is called 我的世界 in Chinese. Literally "my world" and pronounced "wo de shi jie". Good luck with it! Quote
Ria Posted June 16, 2014 at 07:36 AM Author Report Posted June 16, 2014 at 07:36 AM Thank you so much for your reply, Abhoriel. I very much appreciate that you went to the effort of finding an answer to my question ;-) I'm kind of stunned to hear they don't play it in China, though I did read somewhere they're blocked from using a lot of the Minecraft servers that people set up. I guess a lot of 'worldwide phenomenons' aren't actually worldwide after all! I don't play it myself but I let my son play in 'creative mode' because it's much more about building, constructing, inventing and engineering rather than the 'survival mode' which involves a lot more fighting. Thank you also for providing the word Minecraft in Chinese characters. Very helpful and thoughtful :-) Ria Quote
