fij Posted June 30, 2014 at 07:22 PM Report Share Posted June 30, 2014 at 07:22 PM Can someone suggest a good description of the differences between 那儿+noun, 那个+noun and 那儿的+noun ? Or -- if this has been discussed already -- just a link? Thanks
edelweis Posted June 30, 2014 at 07:52 PM Report Share Posted June 30, 2014 at 07:52 PM 那个+noun : that (house, dog, person...). Either you are pointing at it, or it's a (house, dog, person...) that was mentioned previously. 那儿的+noun : the (house, dog, person ...) which is/are there (at that place), or the type of (house, dog, person...) that is likely to be found there. I think in this case, the place was mentioned previously. 那儿+noun : I haven't encountered this up to now... anyway ... hope this helps. tooironic Posted July 2, 2014 at 12:28 AM Report Share Posted July 2, 2014 at 12:28 AM 那儿/那里 = there, e.g. 他在那儿。He is there. You could also add a noun directly after 那儿 in some situations e.g. 那儿(的)天气很好。The weather there is great. I think in most cases you will add a 的 after 那儿 though. 那儿的 = 那儿 (there) + 的 (possessive particle, used when you want to add a noun), e.g. 那儿的面条很好吃。The noodles there are really yummy. (那儿/那里 should not be confused with 哪儿/哪里 = where, e.g. 他在哪儿?Where is he?) 那个 = that, e.g. 那个人真棒。That person is brilliant. You can add pretty much any countable noun after 那个, but 个 should be substituted with the correct measure word when needed, e.g. 那本书很好看。That book is great. (那个 should not be confused with 哪个 = which one, e.g. 你最喜欢哪个?Which is your favourite? 你最喜欢哪本书?Which book is your favourite?) Hope that helps.
