magores Posted May 2, 2005 at 05:32 PM Report Posted May 2, 2005 at 05:32 PM Without going into too much detail, I was wondering if there is any cultural or other special significance to a green jade ring? To put it in context... Taiwanese-born mother of Girl presents ring to Guy. Puts it on his left ring finger. Says alot of things in Mandarin that went by too fast for his limited Mandarin skills to catch. But, he did catch a couple of things... "....... ...........Good Luck" Now... I'm not a (total) dunce, so I think I understand what happened, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Any insight would be appreciated. 謝謝你 Magores Quote
confucius Posted May 5, 2005 at 08:03 AM Report Posted May 5, 2005 at 08:03 AM This tradition dates back to the Northern Wei dynasty and by placement of the jade ring on the man's left ring finger it means you are expected to help produce sons with the girl soon after your impending wedding, which should fall before the next lunar cycle. Good luck indeed! Quote
