DavidL706 Posted July 14, 2014 at 04:19 AM Report Posted July 14, 2014 at 04:19 AM As an amateur violin player, Czardas was always one of my favorite solo pieces. The following is an Erhu version of it. An interesting blend of cultures: a piece in the Hungarian style, originally written by an Italian composer, played on a Chinese instrument. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTDIDSMcNmc 1 Quote

DavidL706 Posted July 14, 2014 at 04:53 PM Author Report Posted July 14, 2014 at 04:53 PM There are quite a few works for Violin which are transcribed for Erhu. The middle range of the violin corresponds to that of the Erhu (D4 / A4), so it's quite easy to transcribe a number of works over. Of course, the range is smaller compared to the violin, and the timbre is different, but that often makes for an interesting contrast with the other. Just for comparison: The original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OKPUausH64 Erhu version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M3BqhieAvY (the original is unaccompanied - the Piano part in this video was added by modern composers) Quote
renzhe Posted July 18, 2014 at 11:34 PM Report Posted July 18, 2014 at 11:34 PM That was nothing short of awesome! It's not an easy piece, and playing it on an erhu certainly didn't make it any easier! Quote
