rexh Posted July 15, 2014 at 01:26 AM Report Share Posted July 15, 2014 at 01:26 AM Hi all, I'm not sure if a post is up somewhere already about this - I searched and couldn't find one - and would like to point this to people as another resource for finding native speaker teachers. Basically the findmyfavouriteteacher.com site is just what it advertises - a way for you to find someone to teach you the language you want (or if you are a teacher to find students). I was looking for a teacher locally to help me practice listening in particular and wanted to do this with interesting conversation rather than laboring over text books. My experience with local language schools is that they are more text book focused and it seems like a chore to me rather than fun. So I joined up (it is free) and just put out there that I was looking for a teacher. You can also browse the listings of teachers who have already registered and are in your area. The teachers usually list their hourly rates and I was surprised that some teachers will teach for free - as they have just moved into the area and want to make friends. So you could get a great deal to practice your Chinese! I tried one teacher first but found that her accent was quite different from the standard for several sounds. I then tried a different guy and find he is brilliant. So if you are looking for opportunities to speak more and maybe make friends or find a teacher at a much lower price than schools then check out the site. By the way, a disclaimer, I have nothing to do with the site at all. I just found it through Google search and signed up for free.

rexh Posted July 15, 2014 at 07:05 AM Author Report Share Posted July 15, 2014 at 07:05 AM What! Really? I just joined up about 4 weeks ago and it was free. Did you try and join as teacher or student? The only other reason I can think of that this would happen is if they restrict membership according to country, i.e. IP address. I joined as a student and it was free.
ZoxGuo Posted July 15, 2014 at 07:08 AM Report Share Posted July 15, 2014 at 07:08 AM No, seems like I can't join free unless I'm a adult.
