What is a regime?

Hello again folks,

 

I am working on a text on the removal of membrane fouling and there I came across a term I don't quite understand in the FAQ section.

 

Here's the sentence (modified) in question:

 

Reduction in cleaning frequency makes the system much more cost effective when compared with standard cleaning chemicals and regimes.

What does regime mean? I looked up the word in several dictionaries but none of the definitions seemed to fit.

 

PS: I didn't do the existing Chinese translation on the site.

Think of it as routine, as in a regular set of things you do. Process, regimen. For example.
