My friend has this tattoo but doesn't think it says what he originally wanted (star sign?)

Can anyone translate please?

It means Aquarius (the star sign).

Tell your friend not to get anything tattood on him that he doesn't understand because it could have been anything.

The tattoo is not very flattering, IMHO.

What's wrong with it? it's just a starsign and a fairly popular one I'ld say.

Maybe nothing is wrong with it per se, but from a certain aesthetic perspective, this particular tattoo does not seem attractive? I would subscribe to that view, though acknowledging, as long as the bearer finds pleasure in the work, that is probably what matters most.

There are probably nicer fonts.

Not the end of the world, I'm sure your friend will get lots of positive reactions from lots of different people, which was probably the goal.

but from a certain aesthetic perspective

Maybe I had a too limited perception of flattering. Aesthetically I agree it could have done better. When I read it I interpreted it as that the language/conotation is not flattering. So I hoped/expected to get some cultural insight as a response instead of an aesthetical reference.

So I hoped/expected to get some cultural insight as a response instead of an aesthetical reference.

Western astrology is now more popular in China than Chinese astrology.

So having a western star sign tattooed in Chinese on a western body possibly depicts a commendable cultural awareness of the latest superstitional trends in the East.

How's that for cultural insight. Deliberately written in sociologically appropriate gobbledy-gook.
