New Members Retinger Posted July 22, 2014 at 12:52 AM New Members Report Posted July 22, 2014 at 12:52 AM Ni hao! My new boyfriend has a tattoo which he does not know the meaning of. We're pretty sure one of the symbols means "Dragon" but we cannot find the meaning of the other symbol. Can anyone help? Quote
fanglu Posted July 22, 2014 at 08:53 AM Report Posted July 22, 2014 at 08:53 AM 兽龙 (that's simplified, his tattoo is in traditional characters but I can't write them on my phone sorry) The meaning is beastly dragon (you were right about dragon. Beastly in the sense of cruel and uncivilized). You can see it in a dictionary here: http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php?page=worddict&wdrst=1&wdqb=兽龙 Quote
skylee Posted July 22, 2014 at 01:48 PM Report Posted July 22, 2014 at 01:48 PM But does it really mean beastly dragon? Is it supposed to be read from left to right? Or from right to left? Indeed what exactly does it mean? Quote
Lu Posted July 22, 2014 at 02:44 PM Report Posted July 22, 2014 at 02:44 PM 兽 beast, wild animal 龙 dragon Beast & dragon? Dragon & beast? Beastly dragon? What did your boyfriend think he was getting? Or did he just like the characters? The calligraphy is not that great, but it's alright enough. Quote
oceancalligraphy Posted July 24, 2014 at 08:09 AM Report Posted July 24, 2014 at 08:09 AM I did a search on 獸龍 and 龍獸. Both terms show up in dinosaur names. 巨獸龍 is Giganotosaurus and 恐齒龍獸屬 is Dinodontosaurus. The search also took me to 群龍默示錄 (Dragon's Prophet), which is an online game. One of the types of dragons is 龍獸 (http://tw.dragonsprophet.com/dragon).%C2'> Quote
