Shelley Posted July 24, 2014 at 12:23 PM Report Posted July 24, 2014 at 12:23 PM Hello, I remember seeing this on YouTube sometime ago, I just went and had another look and yes there is quite a lot of Chinese with Mike on YouTube. The style of this series is not for me. This is only my personal taste and not a criticism of actual content ( I don't feel qualified to comment on content because I could not sit through any one video to the end) just the way it is delivered. Some people may like it but not me. Here is some of the YouTube stuff http://www.youtube.com/user/ShermerIL and here is his website http://chinesewithmike.com/ Have to give him full marks for effort though and hope he has success. kāfēi Posted August 10, 2014 at 10:10 PM Report Posted August 10, 2014 at 10:10 PM I bought Chinese with Mike so I could help my daughter practice her Mandarin whilst her Mandarin teacher is having a summer break. I'm finding it fairly easy to formulate what I consider to be complicated sentences for a beginner. I don't think the book has the same content that the original downloads had - I'm not particularly impressed by the book, but the video content is packed with information.I'd recommend it for a beginner, though I have nothing to compare it with. Gil Dawson Posted August 18, 2014 at 05:51 PM Report Posted August 18, 2014 at 05:51 PM I tried out the video series on Youtube this spring, and have mixed reviews from watching the first dozen lessons. The content and pacing are good (in my opinion), and he does a fine job of making sure you know just how much work needs to go into learning the language. My only disagreement is that Mike very quickly lets us know he won't be teaching us characters much at all. Which is fine for purely spoken Chinese, but I aim to read and write. Certainly worht checking out, not quite an essential learnig tool. Quote
