My friend got a Tattoo in Hanzi on his chest, I initially thought it was Xiao Long, little Dragon, but on closer inspection it's either been done incorrectly or I am mistaken.

This is the tattoo

Is the the top left component of Long incorrect or is this a different character completely?

thank you

The '‘ character appears to have been drawn incorrectly.  Note the top left should be 立, but your friend has something like 七.  Something also bothers me about the 月 on the lower left, but I can't put my finger on it, finally, in the bottom right, there should be three horizontal strokes 三, but your friend's tattoo only has two 二.

Those are the biggest problems.  Stylistically, I don't think the shading used helps, and some of the strokes are not entirely proportional and correct (in both '小' and '龍’).

That 月 has its horizontal strokes too high, and they should either both touch the right side or neither. I think that's what's wrong with it.

So this is a miswritten 龍. On the plus side, it's still clear that it's intended as 龍 and it doesn't look like another character (that I know).
