Ema Posted August 9, 2014 at 01:00 PM Report Posted August 9, 2014 at 01:00 PM Hi everyone, This is my first post on this gorgeous forum. I am a fan of Chinese culture but - most unfortunately - I have not had time yet to undertake serious study of Chinese. This is why I seek your help in translating the charachters of this little seal which I bought some time ago. All I know is that - according to the seller - it should date back to the XIX century, and that it came in a little wooden box. The seal itself is no larger than 2 inches. Many thanks to those of you who will help me! Quote
ZhangJiang Posted August 10, 2014 at 02:46 PM Report Posted August 10, 2014 at 02:46 PM It's 尤榮煇印, though I'm not sure about the surname i.e. the first character. Btw, it should be viewed upside down. Quote
Ema Posted August 10, 2014 at 06:20 PM Author Report Posted August 10, 2014 at 06:20 PM Thank you indeed, ZhangJiang. Apologies for uploading the seal upside-down, I did not know... Below you can see it in its correct position... Let's hope someone out there can help the two of us clarifying the first character, then! Thank you again Emanuele Quote
Divato Posted August 11, 2014 at 07:17 PM Report Posted August 11, 2014 at 07:17 PM Yep, I think the first character should be 尤. I can't be 100% sure though. It's 篆体 and I used an online Chinese font website to show 尤荣辉印 in 篆体. The direction of stroke is basically the same. So I would bet my money on 尤 Quote
