I would be very grateful if someone could translate the attached symbol for me. It is supposed to mean spirit but I'm guessing it doesn't

If I squint really hard it looks like it might be a botched-up 文, meaning roughly 'literature'. But wait for the opinion of others, they might see something different. Whichever character it is, it's not very well written.

My guess was it is a fake character, the radical 廴 combined with a dot (丶)on the top. But I am notoriously poor at caligraphy.

Regardless of the original intent, a brief glance from more knowledgeable associate suggested a possible claim that it could be argued to be a sparing cursive version of 变 (change)??? I don't know, but it saves more face than my story.
