Hanging Scroll Signature/Seal translation help!

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I just purchased this beautiful hanging scroll of a White Heron with some flowers and foliage. I have been trying hard to translate the calligraphy and seal, but so far, I have been unsuccesful. I am pretty sure the scroll is Japanese, so I was just wondering if someone here was kind enough to help me identify what the characters are, and then I can work out the translation from there. Or if there is some kind person here who is also speaking Japanese, and can translate for me, then that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance if you can help!!

In the (RED) seal is the name
the right one  is 秋
the left one is 華
Both two characters shown on the (BLACK) vertical line
the 3rd character might be 寫

Thanks wileytang2! I looked up 'qian', which apparantly means n.'raise' or ad.'defective' in Chinese right?, but has no translation in Japanese!

The third character is definitely (also see modern Japanese versions of characters with the 臼 component: 舊/旧, 兒/児 etc.), not . In addition to the character form itself, the context should give it away. Chinese calligraphers traditionally sign their works 某某書 (written by X). This one has 寫 instead of 書, but it means the same thing. Could be a Japanese thing, I don't know.

Thanks so much OneEye, this is what I thought. The three character together are saying -

秋華 - Shūka (Japanese)

寫 - Write

So it is basically saying 'Written by Shūka'. So I think it is painted by Takahashi Shūka.

Thank you all so much for your help!
