usagi Posted July 18, 2008 at 02:05 AM Report Posted July 18, 2008 at 02:05 AM (edited) I am Japanese. I am investigating a French man who was with Teresa Teng when she was dead. There is a lot of information in the Japanese web sites. I tried to confirm his information in English sites. But I couldn't know the spell of his name. Some Japanese say that his name is "Stephane Pieyre", and others say "Stephan Pierre". Yet I can't find his name in the Internet. Could you show me his name? And can I believe some rumors around the couple in Japanese? Thank you in advance. Edited July 18, 2008 at 03:16 AM by imron Quote
bhchao Posted July 18, 2008 at 01:58 PM Report Posted July 18, 2008 at 01:58 PM His name was Paul. Teng actually kept her personal life, including family, private. When she died in Thailand, her family was outraged by the Thai TV coverage surrounding her death. Later the Taiwan government gave Teng the second highest civilian medal in her honor to her mother at her state funeral in Taipei. Even Lee Teng-hui and Chen Shui-bian, two people whose "affiliations" diverge greatly from Teng's, attended her state funeral. Quote

bhchao Posted September 1, 2008 at 07:06 PM Report Posted September 1, 2008 at 07:06 PM Here is another song that Teng sung in Mandarin and Japanese. The song has a more modern flavor compared to some of her traditional songs.: I had never heard this Cantonese song until now: 誰在改變 I like this song better than 漫步人生路.
atitarev Posted September 2, 2008 at 02:32 AM Report Posted September 2, 2008 at 02:32 AM Thanks, Bhchao, for keeping this thread alive. I will listen to these songs when I have a chance. We already used a few of Deng Lijun's songs in additional conversation class. I recently got a DVD of her concert in Japan, very nice! Quote
SChinFChin Posted September 2, 2008 at 07:01 AM Report Posted September 2, 2008 at 07:01 AM Thanks to the contributors to this thread. She's one of my favorites singers, and I have quite a few of her songs bookmarked in "Youtube". Just some questions for those of you that buy music Chinese DVD's and CD's in the USA. I live in the USA trying to buy some for myself, but more particularly for my parents who has trouble handling a PC. Is "YesAsia" the one major source, or are there other good merchants out there?? Also, I notice that many of the DVD's, DCD's, CD's mention "China Version". But they seem to be more available and cheaper. Can I buy them and play on players here in the USA, or is some kind of conversion hardware or software necessary. I see some conversion hardware shown, but I don't personally know anyone with experience with them. Any of these I can buy as MP3 downloads?? I new in buying music "legally", and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. Quote
renzhe Posted September 2, 2008 at 02:59 PM Report Posted September 2, 2008 at 02:59 PM With CDs and VCDs, there shouldn't really be any problem, but DVDs have region coding and DVD players sold in the west aren't allowed to (legally) play Chinese DVDs, so many won't. Apparently, that's to combat piracy. Therefore, ironically, the easiest way to play Asian content in the West is to pirate it. There are ways to mod most DVD players to ignore region codes, but I've never done this. Quote
The Elf Piper Posted September 2, 2008 at 05:40 PM Report Posted September 2, 2008 at 05:40 PM It's not illegal to have region free players in the US. It's really easy to reset the region code on many DVD players. I've done it to all of mine and I'm pretty technologically illiterate. I used this site to find out how: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks and when the time comes to buy another DVD player I will check the list to see if the player I'm interested in can be changed to R0. Or, if you don't want to do that, you can find many inexpensive region-free players at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=region+free+dvd+player&x=14&y=22 I've also had friends tell me that sometimes the cheapest players from somewhere like Walmart will play any region. I've had other friends who didn't get one that did, so I wouldn't bother trying that myself. Quote
bhchao Posted September 3, 2008 at 05:08 AM Report Posted September 3, 2008 at 05:08 AM (edited) I like this performance of the Japanese version of 我只在乎你: What makes this performance poignant is that Teresa had just won the Grand Prix award in Japan for the third consecutive year. The emotions you see on her face are tears of joy. That makes a big difference in how the song is expressed, and the feelings instilled in the listener. I am not a big fan of the Japanese version of this song, but the way she sung this live performance sounds better than the CD recording. She won the award for Tsugunai in 1984, Aijin in 1985, and this song in 1986. Here is the Mandarin classic in stereo quality Edited September 26, 2008 at 06:50 AM by bhchao Quote

bhchao Posted September 26, 2008 at 04:00 AM Report Posted September 26, 2008 at 04:00 AM (edited) Here are two songs Teresa Teng sung which the 1930-1940s Shanghainese songwriter 陳歌辛 (who composed some of Zhou Xuan's songs) wrote the melody for. The first song, 東山飄雨西山晴, is sung in Cantonese with different lyrics. Teresa sung this song frequently for the troops in Taiwan. Edited September 26, 2008 at 05:24 AM by bhchao Quote

Meng Lelan Posted October 4, 2008 at 03:14 AM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 03:14 AM Did she sing 我只在乎你 and 月亮代表我的心 in Mandarin? Where are the words to the song in Mandarin and English?
