Crazyanneskipping Posted August 13, 2014 at 06:57 PM Report Share Posted August 13, 2014 at 06:57 PM Hi I have a tattoo that I think is chinese of my sons name which is Lewis. However I'm not sure that is what it says at all. It was picked from a tattoo parlour folder which had most English names supposedly translated. I was young at the time and should have been more careful. Can anyone help with the translation please?
imron Posted August 14, 2014 at 02:53 AM Report Share Posted August 14, 2014 at 02:53 AM You can't really translate English names directly to Chinese. See here for the reasons. If you post a picture of your tattoo, people will be able to tell you what your tattoo says and means.

Lu Posted August 14, 2014 at 09:00 AM Report Share Posted August 14, 2014 at 09:00 AM 利玮思 lìwěisī Advantage, interest - a kind of jade - thought, to think It kind of sounds like 'Lewis' and the meanings of the characters used are all positive. As Imron mentioned, you can't really 'translate' English names into Chinese, but this is a fine transliteration. The calligraphy looks pretty decent as well. All in all, 'name translation' tattoos are not a good idea, but you already have this one and as these things go this is not a bad one to have. Crazyanneskipping Posted August 14, 2014 at 11:39 AM Author Report Share Posted August 14, 2014 at 11:39 AM Thanks Lu, I feel much happier about it now that I know it sounds right and the characters are not negative. Thanks very much.
