Marriage traditions

So I got married recently. Discovered a lot of the old traditions are still going strong.

 

Ceremony was in the UK, so a lot of relatives flew over from HK, will be doing the wedding banquet thing again in HK in January.

 

All the females did the hair combing ceremony the night before the wedding, notes attached if you can read the writing.

 

 

 

I got a kick back from the dowry to buy a belt. 

 

The relatives installed new bedding, which I can see only ever being used the once

 

Language wise, her Taiwanese relatives proved a bit of challenge, they don't have much English, and my mandarin is supremely rusty, not that it was ever very good. 8 year old Taiwanese children, speak far too quickly, and have too many questions, so I spent a lot of time nodding as if I understood, and just saying 对 a lot.

 

As we didn't do door games before the wedding, they were played at wedding reception, as half of my 兄弟 weren't Chinese, they were the guys I grew up with in the UK, they were supremely confused by the gameshow element that was sprung on them. However if I'd told them in advance, I'm not sure they would have agreed to take the role...

Interesting. I've been to a few Chinese weddings (in China). They are often have a strange mix of Chinese traditions and modernity, with no real consistency. Though if it was held in the UK and with lots of Cantonese people it would have a different flavor to it.

 

Oh, we where given the exact same bedding too. I hated it.
